Arshavin?

He's an attacking midfielder, Ghost. If we can replace Faddy with him paying a topup of two or three million, I'd say it's a bargain.

Interesting that the Echo, EFC's house paper, are mentioning it....

Yeah but do we need him more than say a defensive midfielder? I don't see the need/rush to replace Faddy as he's not really been a regular has he.

If we have an immediate need, I would say it is at central defence rather than defensive midfield. Sure, we could do with a long-term replacement for Carsley, but the centre midfield area seems fairly sturdy with Carse, Fernandes, Neville and Jagielka.

We saw that we are a little thin in creative midfield when Arteta, Osman and Pienaar were missing in various games - Arshavin provides another option (and the potential combination of him and some of those names, plus Cahill and our forwards is mouthwatering).

We only need one defensive midfielder - carsley, and in emergency, Neville, jags, can do the job.

We have several attacking midfileder shaped holes in our midfield right now. its painfully obvious this is where we dont have much depth. Injury to arteta and we'll be shafted. whether Arshavin is the man who knows!

Defensive mid is one for the summer - attacking mid options are needed for now

Jags plays in defence mate, is not as good in midfield.

Moyes has always made statements regarding the right players at the right price, so if he rates Arshavin and he is available for the right price, do you think he will hesitate if he thinks he will improve the team. IMO this is exactly the leel we should be shooting for, if anything it will make us even MORE dangerous going forward. I am sure Moyes would love the difficulty of picking a midfield from:

Arteta, Pienaar, Arshavin, Fernandes, Cahill, Osman, Carsley.

If there is one thing about that, it IS strength in depth.

Good point, but people are talking about replacing Faddy and I don't think we need to. I think we need to replace Carsley first.

The chances of us actually gettin this guy are remote to say the least, in my opinion.

I think he'll go for between 10~15 million ;)

Yeah it shouldnt be considered a Mcfadden replacement as he never really found a place in the squad.

We need another attacking player though - midfielder who can link up and get forward. Particualrly as we've looked so much better in a 4-5-1

This is even more urgent now i've just read Cahill will be playing in Qualifiers in Feb

Remember, we are an attractive proposition for a player like him now. Playing some fine football, doing well in the UEFA, possible trip to Wembley on the cards, pushing for CL next season. The Premiership is apparently where he wants to go and we may well have the money for him. We are looking to be moving forward with some decent momentum and he will keep it going.

Various sites rate him at between £7M and £12M

Some interesting points though:
- Zenit are bankrolled by some Russian Abramovich-type figure so wont be short of cash
- They have champ league football next season
- He's contracted to 2010

That said he seems interested in the premiership. However and Arsenal and Spurs also rumoured to be interested it

got to say though, if a player looking for a club with a reasonable chance of Champ league plus a good possibility of getting into the first eleven, we seem to be a good option!

Not so sure how the relationship between Echo and the club works. I remember over the summer the Echo reported heavily on Joey Barton, Alan Smith, Nugent, etc. Its all got to be taken with the same hefty pinch of salt that most of he other rumours need to be.
