Arshavin?

I understood it was Fernandes or Arshavin, now we have Fernandes, we don't need Arshavin.

I dont agree.

we needed another body before Mcfadden was leaving. That was fernandes

Now he's leaving we arguably need Fernandes +1.

If Grav leaves then arguably we need Fernandes + 2

And dont even get me started on the fact that Fernandes is only on loan, and some of us have doubts about his work ethic and consistency.... he certainly isnt the messiah though.

What about Modric from Croatia he ripped England apart with some superb passing and will command about the same fee, the difference is He's not in a club owned by a billionaire and probably wont cost as much. Dynamo Zagreb I think is where he's at.

Luka Modric's pricetag is >£20m. We'd have to sell Arteta to get him. I would.

Have you been drinking my good man.

And Dylan i wasnt saying we wouldnt get him because he wouldnt come, i just cant see moyes spending that sort of cash in the january sales. Think he wants manny in the summer to be honest and with him costing 10m ish our options will be restricted

Well why do we need to replace McFadden? He was a striker, not a midfielder. We already have 4 other strikers at the club, + Cahill.

Oh yeah of course I don't expect us to do that! I just meant that down the line if we could, I would sell Arteta when he is 28 or so and give him the opportunity to make himself a name in Spain and replace him with a class young player.

That doesn't justify spending money on a player who is going to be temporarily played out wide. When Pienaar comes back, where do they all play?

I would be happy to see Lescott or Baines to play left midfield rather then shell out on a very temporary stop gap.

*sighs*

OK I will assume this not a deliberate attempt to annoy. My point was about squad size and depth rather than positions.

Whatever label you want to put on him, Mcfadden was used as a midfielder as much as he was used as a striker. He has certainly never been the "1" in a 4-5-1. However all this is semantics given the flexiility modern formations need to have.

I said we need another body to replace Mcfadden. Not another striker.

Please read my posts and try to understand rather than being such a pedant. Or should I flip it and assume from your post that you would like Yak, AJ, Vaughan, Victor, and Cahill all in the same starting eleven.

Even more so to pick this guy up. Pienaar isn't a winger, I remember an interview on EvertonTV where he said he prefers to be in the middle, but is happy to play anywhere he is needed.

The point is we don't need a traditional 'winger'. It looks to me that Moyes is pushing his team towards a Total Football style. Everybody can do everything and do it well. All the more so, because the Total football abilities, coupled with some modern tactics and fitness AND our solidarity as a unit could mean Moyes is pioneering something for a new generation.

HOLY [Poor language removed]! That is what he is doing! :P

Not at all. I just don't think we need to replace a player just for the sake of it. I would rather see youth given a chance, rather than buying in another body.

If McFadden was useful often and made a difference I would say yes we need to replace him, but he has been a bit part player, and we don't need to replace him with another bit part player.

I got fed up when people were saying we need to replace David Weir ( we needed to replace him 5 years before we sold him) Kilbane, Davies. All players that were useless. I would rather we invest in the club rather than feel we have to make a signing.

So we will have Pienaar, Osman, Cahill, Fernandes, Neville, Carlsey all going for the central midfield positions.

Fair enough, but if that's the case and Moyes is looking to play Pienaar in the middle, then we will need a wide player. But unless he thinks that way, I still feel that a defensive midfielder is our priority.

Look at it, all of our midfielders can play across the line (except Cahill and Carsley). Imagine how that [Poor language removed] up an opponents gameplan when the midfield reshapes and evolves as the game goes on.
