Yeah completely my fault for not knowing the law of the country.

When I first rented one in Koh Phangan they didn't even offer me a helmet though so I made the mistake of assuming it wasn't a requirement.

I'm going to write a book, "How not to holiday in Thailand."

There's already loads of them written by blokes being raped in the big tiger..!!

My mate I used to work with wrote a book about it. Never thought I would be in a similar situation.

Surely best case is charges dropped due to lack of evidence?

There will never be a lack of evidence mate. If they have any fear of that happening they will just make some up

If I plead innocent I could be here months, maybe over a year. My family can't afford that, I'd have to go to prison and wait.

I'm going to have to put my emotions aside and take the pragmatic approach to see the best course of action.

Local chap i know in jakarta was out with friends in a club and ran into a girl he knew...he told her he had an early morning and was driving home etc...she told him 2 of her mates were about to leave and was he able to drop them....he agreed.

In the car and hes ended up back ending someone at a traffic light....no damage but the guy calls the cops.

They arrive and search him + the car...nothing...then the girls....one of them had drugs in her handbag.

All 3 arrested...his lawyer comes and he gets in front of the judge (private meeting) who says to pay the equivilent of $50k (may have been $20k i forgot)....

He instructs the lawyer and the money is paid....

Hes not released...

Sees the judge again with his lawyer and is told that was just for the girls to be released....he has to cough up the same amount.
