He had a brilliant season last year which led to him being called up by the National team, but West Ham passed up the opportunity to sign him over concerns about his behaviour / conduct and impact on the dressing room.

Since then, he has gone from one of Villareals best players, valued at >£30m to barely playing and being allowed to leave on loan. And the main suitors are us and Nottingham Forest.

Something does not smell right.

I smell Drenthe

A combination of Drenthe and Van der Meyde

Dwight McNeil.

Last year at Burnley someone pressed the off button.

This is what loans with option are for though, no?

Besides, I think a lot of emphasis has gone into "nice lads" in our recruitment and while their attitudes may indeed be great and they may be lovely fellas, a lot of them are soft as hell. Maybe a spot of arrogance would help.

Maybe the upsetting slowness is down to a weak negotiating position on transfers. We are not City or the RS who can offer £60 mill up front for players who dying to join them.
