I’m worried. We’re not very good. Really average back 4, whatever the combo. Even if this Mina comes in, he’s not very good, there’s a reason Barca want shut, his stock is high after a decent World Cup. Do not want. Gana is the only decent mid we have, Richarlison will prove to be decent, if massively overpriced. Wel’ll always struggle to score goals due to lack of creativity and a good striker.

Problem to my mind with the back four is our midfield a really poor defensive shield and really poor in transition to attack in fact i dont really know what they do. If you cant make the ball stick up front and you cant protect the back four simple logic says your defense is going to be put to the pin of its clollar, the more that happnes the more likely you are to concede.

The answer is simple we badly need decent midfield players, i think we will see a center half anyhow.

The people saying 'write this season off' are deluded - if we play Silva's style with the current players we will be in a relegation battle make no mistake - teams that dont defend and cant score go down in this league and for all Alladyce's faults he got us up to 8th by being boring but having 10 behind the ball (something Silva wont do)

Silva is being let down by the board and Brands- if we are in a relegation battle he will be sacked- they'll be no "we need to give 2-3 seasons to sort out the Koeman / Walsh mess" as Moshiri won't gamble his investment on PL status.

This is why I was a "bed wetter" one month in to the transfer window with no signings because I know fully well how poor this current squad is and that 5-6 quality signings were required to even have us talking of finishing 7th this season. Too many of us (and our board) are deluded in thinking these current jokers and over the hill players will guarantee us 7/8th.

My worry is not based on unrealistic expectations but simply whether we can do enough damage control before the season starts.

I expect us to still have some unpopular players here but the likes of Williams mirallas Martina need to be moved on so they aren't an option in the future. That's my short term worry, I don't expect a fantastic season but it would be nice to have some new players and something to get behind at least to kick on next season

Coleman’s hitting on a problem that Koeman Unsworth and Allardyce all picked up on. The players will take on board new ideas in training but come matchday they have absolutely no interest in implementing them. I say this because even poor players can change how they play under different managers but this group of players have played fairly much the same way (except for a few months under Koeman) since 14/15. Managers have come and gone and do have some players but the end product is exactly the same all the time. I think Silva is as bemused as Koeman was, you work all week on something in training and come matchday they come out like a pub team.

I'm not worried about Silva think he's a good manager I am massively worried about our defence though. Pre season or not they just aren't good enough. Tore to shreds by 1 average and 1 terrible side in 3 days

Me eyes, my eyes, I can’t unsee what I’ve already seen. There is some nonsense in this thread, bed wetters everywhere.

I’m not worried in the slightest. I think we’ll see 3 or 4 come in with loads out in the last week and another comfortable top 8 finish playing much more entertaining football.

With a few more additions over the next few windows we’ll bridge that gap to the top 4 again.

Sam Allardyce???...jeezus, what am I reading.

Signing more players and increasing our squad size and wage bill wouldn't have been sustainable.

Reducing squad size first is the right thing to do.

Don't forget it's been a world cup year, and a shorter window. Things where never going to happen quickly.

We are going to be playing this season with virtually the same players as last season. Expecting us to better 8th is unrealistic. If we pull it off it'll mean we've had a good season

My sheets are wet or my head has fallen off or something else that gets said on here for not being a happy clapper. Yes I'm concerned because we still have the same core group of shithouses and no amount of rubbing will polish this turd. Players needed and needed fast

We need major replacement.
Looking at our better players in Pickford, Coleman, Richarlison, Walcott and a few on the cusp in Siggy and Tosun and maybe Lookman it shows total lack of depth and flair.

Bog average players that will not take us forward. That is where the job starts.

Apart from Coleman the whole back 4 and back ups should be discarded. Gana and Schnides don't seem to have much of a skillset.

Would give Holgate time but still not there yet. I do think we have a few hidden talents (eg. Dowell) that will only perform with the right partnerships. This team does not have many partnerships and it showed the difference against Rennes yesterday. Rennes broke in numbers and a togetherness....fast and no delayed passes because they know where each other is. Watch us and you see the player receiving the ball needing time to find a pass hence dwelling and slowing any movements down then getting snuffed out. This may improve with Silva but I cannot see it.

Basically we cannot defend, the midfield cannot protect or create well enough. Lots to do before the window shuts
