Are we missing a trick with Leighton Baines?

What to do with Baines

Didn't Gareth Bale start out as a fullback - he made the switch further forward quite effectively eh ?
he also had copious amounts of pace, the ability to beat a man, and was a considerably different kind of fullback.
He was also much younger in making the switch.
You seem awful concerned about moving players into positions that aren't their own, see your similar threads on Barkley as a forward and Stones as a midfielder.

Merely offering alternatives for consideration/discussion/debate - that's all mate.

And I fully expect Guardiola to use Stones as a ball-playing defensive midfielder - let's see eh?

Everything he's said suggests otherwise but that's alright...

Needs a clever player in front of him to link up with as well

Totally agree - never replaced Steven Pienaar in this respect, albeit maybe KM could do the job given a decent run and manager that can get through to him.. RK might be that man though, since he was also pretty decent in Leighton's postiion

He's a good left back not a winger.

31 years old is not the time to suddenly become a winger and I'm sure at some point in his career of playing professional football and training day in, day out the possibility has been looked into. If he's not a winger now he never will be and there's probably a good reason or 2 for it.
