Are we just malcontents?

Are you a malcontent?

As a fanbase do we complain to much over every little thing? Are we always looking for something to nitpick about, ignoring the positive?

Or are we rightfully hacked off at putting time, money and emotional investment into the footballing equivalent of Ratners, wearily hoping for some sort of pay off?

Discuss.
It's "too much" not "to much" ffs, do we not have a complaints form on here for bad grammar?

But in answer to your question no I don't ever look for things to nitpick over

We haven't won a trophy in 30+ years and haven't looked like winning one since 2009.

We pay a ridiculous amount of money to watch ale house footy. We don't complain enough in my opinion far too many happy clappers a consequence of the Kenwright years when he brainwashed fans to always use this phrase "it could be worse we could be...".

I am a malcontent but, and I know I'm going to get stick for this, I think Everton fans are amongst the most patient fans in world football.

Let me explain, for 30 years we have had nothing to cheer, not a single trophy. Yes, over that time frame we have probably had 10 relegation battles including at least three last day survivals. But beyond penury, nothing. We got to a single cup final in that period, so not even any near misses for trophies. We are the most glory starved club in English football and must be up there globally. And yet, we sell out every match, we travel in huge numbers, we are always clogging up the radio phone ins etc... I genuinely believe 90% of other clubs would have started to see gates dwindle, interest wane and relegation become inevitable.

Evertonians are many things but, as a collective, malcontents is not one of them (despite all of the booing).

I'm relatively content with the direction of the club. We look much more progressive off field than we have in recent years, we've got a great new stadium, we've got premium packages for fans to wine and dine with club stalwarts and we are good, if unspectacular in the league.

We've disappointingly missed opportunities to capitalise further this year for a variety of reasons and we've underutilised younger players. The manager has, as expected been solid.

I'm in the 6/10 bracket.

I was listening to Tony Bellew this morning on Talksport suggesting Moyes deserves manager of the year for nearly beating Man City last night and having the club sitting in 10th - so maybe I'm expecting too much.

He used to get punched in the head for a living.

:/

I think we are just tired as a fanbase. The second half last night and plenty of other games show that this team and players aren't rubbish and are capable of playing football to a good standard.

I don't know about others but I'm tired of being a club that drops points and loses games far too often for being feeble and pathetic in terms of performance and tactically time and time again (this isn't just a Moyes thing, it's happened under other managers too). I know we aren't going to or able to win every game but I just want a team and club that tries to and puts in a shift to do so. If we aren't better then we aren't better but there's no excuse for being a club that puts out that first half performance last night and it's demoralising as a fan when you see your club repeatedly do so.
Yup. That first half performance and that last 15 minutes were embarrassing. Weak. Feeble. If you can work your way into a 3-1 lead, you can see the win out. Games take on a life of their own - it's why we watch sport even when a mismatch is possible - but we didn't cope with the life of this game in the last 15 minutes. In other words, even when things went dramatically our way, we were still incapable of taking advantage. THAT, more than anything, is why this feels like a defeat. It confirms that, no matter what, we just are not good enough. But we suspected as much. The key now is whether the owners do or don't...

Good times Tony.

I don't think our fanbase is any worse than your average fanbase, but you stick a 100 people in a wonky lift on the 2nd floor and you're going to gather heat.
Who Closed the door ?
Who pushed the button ?
The lift just moved, Is that progress or regress ?
I want this floor, Well I want that floor..
Who built the lift ?
Who owns the lift ?

Why is someone standing on my bleeding foot ?

Having followed us from the 90s (first game I remember is the 86 cup final, but it took until the early 90s for me to get into football properly), I think there's been one particular change that I don't think gets brought up all that much.

There are still plenty of older fans that remember our glory years, but increasingly the ground is filled with fans from subsequent generations. They've inherited the dissatisfaction with mediocrity that has come from those older fans who remember better times.

Fans sort of 45ish and under have been brought up to demand more than they've seen in their whole time supporting the club - which is kind of a strange place to be.

It's the folk memory of where we were a generation or more ago that fuels that dissatisfaction.

From an outside perspective; Malcontents? No. There is too much humour on here for that. Admittedly some of that humour is a bit darker than it used to be. There is a good deal of frustration at the situation that you are starting to come out of but no whining for the sake of it.
Malcontents take themselves far too seriously. No one could accuse anyone of that on GoT. If you need any, you could have a few of ours.
