Are we just malcontents?

I was reading an Aston Villa forum during their game vs Spurs and a lot of their fans were fuming at Emery.

Typical Emery, this is on Emery, "but we should be grateful of Europe remember"" etc. They're in a Europa semi final, and will qualify for the Champions League.

So it's just football fans, but at least Evertonians have genuine prolonged reason to moan.
Arsenal fans, at least some wanted Arteta out and they're top of the league. I think it's much more to do with fact that in the past, you had top 4, who spent way more than clubs like us and Villa, so we kind of knew our place. With clubs like Everton and Villa spending more money on players and ticket prices at Everton and Villa being extremely expensive fans are less patient. Wasn't it £92 for cheapest ticket against Bayern Munich when they played them? If our fans are and Villa fans are paying large amounts of money to attend matches, expectations will grow.

We have every right to moan, i hate how low our ambitions have sunk to, i think a lot of the conflict/arguments on here will be generally between a 20-30 year old and 50 plus, as one generation has seen it all and the other has only seen us exist in the PL with zero to shout about.

We are a patient fanbase as a whole, we are very passionate and loyal to this club, and for 30 years the club have give us nothing back.

We should never lower our standards or ambition no matter what, (like now being happy we arent in a relegation battle) sorry but koff with that.

Many here have and will sacrifice things with their family to watch this club, drive for hours to go the game, take days off from work, spend money they cant afford.

Back the OP i dont think we complain enough for what we give to the club and they fail to give back.

We're getting closer and closer to fourty years without a single trophy and without almost anything positive happening. The cost of season tickets and generally going to match is getting higher and higher by the season and yet we're always sold out week after week. So no, we aren't malcotents. We're an incredibly loyal fanbase that's been pushed way to far.

Now with that being said, there definitely is some malcotents on here who'd cry and moan even if we won the quadruple every season for a decade!😂

Unai Emery is 'slightly' better than Moyes, but it all depends on the circumstances. Emery was notorious for qualification to the champions league and getting knocked down to europa and then becoming a permanent stay there. For a mid-sized club looking to move to the big league, he is awesome. But staying in the big league. Not so much. Moyes on the other hand might get knocked out of the every cup we play in barring the conference league one.

Just want this club to be challenging for honours which is what it should be doing. Not going to be entitled in saying we should be winning everything in sight but we should be challenging and winning things every now and then.

That’s not moaning

Obviously context we have crap ownership for decades but we the fan base well some of us still remember what this club used to be

Yeah none of us are saying we should be winning something every season but we do want to see ambition and the club actively trying to better its self.

I think we seen it under Moshiri to a degree but unfortunately he trusted the wrong people.

The list of clubs who have won a trophy since we last one won is truly disgusting going to name a few here.

  • Portsmouth
  • Birmingham
  • Swansea
  • Crystal Palace
  • West Ham
  • Leicester City
  • Wigan
The Premier League (mainly) main stays to win a trophy since our last:

  • those lot
  • United
  • Chelsea
  • Arsenal
  • Spurs
  • Newcastle.
  • Manchester City
There is also a fair chance Villa will be added to that list above or Forrest added to the first list.

We aren't unreasonable to be asking why we haven't and if the current owners / manager are best placed to end this truly dreadful drought. I personally believe Moyes isn't. His treatment of the cups this season was unforgiveable especially the league cup game down at Wolves.

I believe he weighed up that Europe would be the most likely way to get himself a new contract and he believed the best way to get Europe was via the league than winning a cup, a bed he now has to lie in if we don't get Europe.

As for the current owners, I don't know their plans or strategy for the club never mind knowing if they want to see us win things.

I appreciate others will feel differently but one thing is we all should demand better of the club even if we disagree on how that happens. We are some of the most loyal, passionate and patient fans in the entire league and it irks me when some come on here and make out we are like petulant school kids for wanting more than just existing.

Spot on post this.

This club would have been dead and buried if it wasn't for us doing what we did the other season.

I always wanted Kenwright gone but always knew the main damage he did was to this club was his manipulation of the fan base and the acceptance culture he cultivated, all in order to keep hold of his play set may take a decade to get rid of.

I think we are just tired as a fanbase. The second half last night and plenty of other games show that this team and players aren't rubbish and are capable of playing football to a good standard.

I don't know about others but I'm tired of being a club that drops points and loses games far too often for being feeble and pathetic in terms of performance and tactically time and time again (this isn't just a Moyes thing, it's happened under other managers too). I know we aren't going to or able to win every game but I just want a team and club that tries to and puts in a shift to do so. If we aren't better then we aren't better but there's no excuse for being a club that puts out that first half performance last night and it's demoralising as a fan when you see your club repeatedly do so

ye i’m thinking this to i think or am i

We shouldn't be a knife to a gun fight football club but we are and have been on so many occasions over the years.

Generally speaking football fans are probably the biggest cryarses on the planet, defo the biggest cryarses in all of sport.

I include myself in that, at least up until about the mid 2010's when apathy started setting in.

The intelligence of the average football fan is at a catastrophic all-time low. You team is either winning every week or you want the manager out. There is no in-between.

It is a lazy, fickle, shallow and iredeemably stupid mindset, and its genesis was the onset of 24 hour football coverage on Sky/Talksport etc.

Given Moyes has been here like 13 years in two spells and its obvious he hasn't changed (albeit I did feel like he had last season) its not reactionary when our fans question whether or not he's the right man to take us to the next level. I assume there's a fair few who do believe in him and that's fine but the counter argument could be made that what they're basing that opinion off....

At the end of the day us as fans want to see our clubs win things, Emery hasn't won anything for Vila but has done an incredible job in taking Vila to the level they're at now. I am sure their fans are wondering if he can do that, win them that trophy they all crave (like we do).

I do think they will win the Europa League and will turn it around against Forest on Thursday meaning those fans in that pub will be delighted he proved them wrong and ready for them to go do even better next season.

It feels like a marriage where you are married to one lazy bar steward.
Meanwhile you are up at 5 every morning pulling your tripe out to make a better more comfortable life yet the wife lays on the couch all day doing sweet FA.

But I feel the wife has at least now seen the light and is making some sort of effort. Mind you it’s only taken 30 years.
It’s what happens when you take that vow of love with Everton.
Mines took 35 years...and I got up at 4.15 am....

Having followed us from the 90s (first game I remember is the 86 cup final, but it took until the early 90s for me to get into football properly), I think there's been one particular change that I don't think gets brought up all that much.

There are still plenty of older fans that remember our glory years, but increasingly the ground is filled with fans from subsequent generations. They've inherited the dissatisfaction with mediocrity that has come from those older fans who remember better times.

Fans sort of 45ish and under have been brought up to demand more than they've seen in their whole time supporting the club - which is kind of a strange place to be.

It's the folk memory of where we were a generation or more ago that fuels that dissatisfaction.

I think we can label anyone from say my age and below to the Kenwright generations.

One of the more interesting threads on here in a while. For a club the size of Everton its bizare you have a fanbase that some have seen not just trophies but top drawer trophies. League champions. And some who've seen nothing. Not even a domestic cup. There aren't many clubs like that about.
The game is changing so much now as well. Its not just one club like years ago where a Wimbledon could come have a party with the big boys for a while. Your Brightons. Brentfords. Bournemouths, more will follow, They outspend Everton now.
For me the club needs to up its game with recruitment if it wants to win trophies again.
Enjoyed reading this thread and the views.
