Threw him under the bus to defend himself. Embarrassing comments from a manager.
Yeah it was unprompted by the question he was asked as well, he knew it wasn’t a popular decision and couldn’t get his explanation in quick enough. So quick to justify himself as you say, didn’t need said.

That comment was genuinely baffling. If he cant do 90, is he saying Rondon can?

And if he cant do 90, at age 21, surely the question is why hasnt the manager prepared him to do so?

The 2 games I've seen him start, he looks more able to do 90 than most of the lads who were left on and collapsed in the game.

I am worried about those after match comments. It's like a weird mixture of Martinez and Allardyce, where it's just ridiculous comments, but also just trying to save their own skin.

I must admit I didn’t see/ hear the comments. It has been said by young players, possibly even Gordon, that they’ve found that when they step up the intensity and concentration needed is completely different. But we have a whole raft of sports science and specialists trainers , if youngsters need something specific to help them, like short burst of intense training at the end of a first team session, then it should be included.

We appear to be very poor at converting our young players into genuine PL regulars. If they’re not talented enough ok , but they shouldn’t be found wanting because of their fitness programme.

Even if the manager believed what he said, there was no need to say it. He wouldn't have made that comment about a senior player and refused point blank to criticise Rondon. It's all about self promotion and deflection for Benitez. A truly pathetic interview from someone nowhere near good enough to be our manager.

My question on this would be, what has the manager done in the 4 months he is here, including a pre season, to address this?

Hopefully Watford was the end of Rondon starting, with Richarlison through the middle you'd have to say Gray and Townsend get the nod ahead of Gordon atm, despite Gordon's decent showings in recent games.

Unless, however, Benitez sticks with Gray off the striker then we can accommodate Richarlison, Townsend, Gray and Gordon. The problem with that is that we keep our current soggy-weatabix-like midfield 2 and our only wide option off the bench is then Iwobi.

4-3-3 for me, Gordon as an impact player off the bench or rotated with one of the wingers when the winter schedule kicks in.

He needs to start slotting, we have enough ‘attackers’ who don’t score goals as it stands.
I want him to do well and be a success but personally I’ve not seen much bar being industrious to warrant getting too excited yet.

In fairness Gordon was tripping over himself in the final minutes before he came off. bUt- as many rightly said, you have to apply that to Rondon as well. He can’t last 30 minutes yet is allowed to finger his bum for the full 90. His comments are inconsistent and baffling here.
