Reports in the North East have suggested that Newcastle United are set for a bitter compensation battle with Premier League rivals Everton over coach Steve Round.
Former Derby County player Round is reportedly Goodison Park-bound after holding negotiations with Everton last week over the vacant position as Assistant Manager to David Moyes.
The Toffees were given permission to speak to Round, who is currently the first team coach at St. James’ Park, last week after Toon manager Kevin Keegan admitted that he did not want to stand in the way of his coach progressing his career.
And although Everton seem to have reached an agreement with Round, who had to retire early on in his playing career due to injury problems, Newcastle have demanded some monetary compensation for the 37-year-old, and according to reports negotiations have reached a deadlock.
So while Everton are impressed with his credentials, they remain unwilling to pay ay sort of compensation because the Englishman is out of contract from tomorrow, after he wasn’t offered a new deal in the North East, despite Keegan wishing for him to stay with the club.
