Reports in the North East have suggested that Newcastle United are set for a bitter compensation battle with Premier League rivals Everton over coach Steve Round.

Former Derby County player Round is reportedly Goodison Park-bound after holding negotiations with Everton last week over the vacant position as Assistant Manager to David Moyes.

The Toffees were given permission to speak to Round, who is currently the first team coach at St. James’ Park, last week after Toon manager Kevin Keegan admitted that he did not want to stand in the way of his coach progressing his career.

And although Everton seem to have reached an agreement with Round, who had to retire early on in his playing career due to injury problems, Newcastle have demanded some monetary compensation for the 37-year-old, and according to reports negotiations have reached a deadlock.

So while Everton are impressed with his credentials, they remain unwilling to pay ay sort of compensation because the Englishman is out of contract from tomorrow, after he wasn’t offered a new deal in the North East, despite Keegan wishing for him to stay with the club.

I was in Benidorm last week. Coyney as you know I am a United Fan ( Manchester) went into a shop to buy a paper and was wearing a T Shirt with a United badge on it. The lady serving me said 'there is a Laundry down the road youve got a stain on your shirt'. So I asked her why she hated Manchester United she then went into a rant about all the fans being Glory Hunters etc. This wound me up some what as I was on Holiday. So I quizzed her about Newcastle and her support for that 'great' club

Answer born in the North East but now she lives in Benidorm and has never been to a game in her life but 'Newcastle deserve to be at the top'

I pointed out that I live 20 Miles from Old Trafford have a Season ticket and 'hate pretend football fans'

Needless to say I demanded a refund and gave her the paper back

Apart from that out of football most of the Geordies I have met have been sound

Alright Neville, good to see you back around again. Ive got some mates working over in Benidorm, rather them than me like.

To be fair to the Geordies, theyre generally very sound and I've met some fantastic ones. Its when they start talking about footie that they do my head in.

the geordie birds accent has been known to get me roused if you know what i mean.........lyke. as they say though, any port in a storm , even a dirty foggy one in the northeast.
