Angus Kinnear

Interesting to hear we’re moving away from the DoF structure for a more team and analytic based approach for signings.

What assume they’d be giving the final choice ‘back’ to the manager.
I mean it's now a full team instead of a DoF, the functionality doesn't change, just one less title.

Thelwell had the same task and power to moderate success - Dyche rejected players for unknown reasons several times in the last few years, now no doubt Moyes will as well. Doesn't matter if it's Kinnear, a DoF or someone else, if the manager doesn't want a player it usually gets his way, unless the data/price/deal is too good to turn down.

Good first interview anyway, well spoken. Hopefully he addresses the fact we have almost no presence anywhere during his tenure.

I do prefer the "team/committee" structure for transfers over Manager and DoF which is more of a mish-mash between the individuals and those that work in separate camps.

On the face of it, that seems a worthy reform from TFG and insightful thinking. It does seem like a more co-ordinated, joined-up approach and augmented by analytics with less room for more subjective judgement.

The only issue is putting a team together in the new structure quickly. I can understand Kinnear going for people he knows here with time being critical. Ideally such a team would develop more organically with the best people being hired for each role and that will probably happen gradually. The other benefit is that unless the whole team leaves together - which is unlikely - then there will always be a degree of continuity.

It's important that the appointments are driven by the CEO and not the manager for that reason. I don't think it's healthy for the manager to be an overbearing figure in such a group, as his position is the most vulnerable to change, but for various reasons Moyes may have more clout this summer.

Didn’t sound like they were doing anything we weren’t doing already (supposedly) just without a single person ultimately responsible.

Sure Thelwell was banging on about analytics a while back, and Brands before that.

In fact didn’t we crow about some deal for exclusive player analytics from a gaming company before?
