Andy Gray!

B

He was happy to be used as a mouthpiece for Kenwright when the lies of our chairman where coming out.
The day before the game, he allowed the club (Ian Ross) to quote him saying various emotional blackmailing tripe to fans.
He went down in my estimation after that.
There is no denying he was a great player

loved him but then hated him. he might have not been offered the job but i remember him in the press talking bout signing this player and that one and how he was going to turn the club around. then sky offered him a better contract and he ran to them. B for me (with a few shades of A memories)

He helped out for a season. Legend my arse. He used the Everton manager's vacancy to boost his SKY wages negotiations.

Wouldn't hold it against him. Did you want him as manager then? I didn't.

Bottom line is could've been the kenwright spin machine when he came in to please the fans, bit like the barcodes getting shearer in for example. Sharpie etc have all done their fair share of bill backing in the past to appease the faithful

Wiki also says-

Scottish international forward Andy Gray reported in his autobiography that the Everton board were ready to offer Gray the job as manager in August 1997, but Bill Kenwright, then director, had wanted to appoint Howard Kendall as manager for a third time. [7] Gray would decide not to become Everton manager and Kendall was appointed.

It's hardly the point whether I'd have wanted him as manager. He threw his hat into the ring at the arse end of a close-season when we were desperate to get a name in of some description...he wasted everyone's time and gave false hope that the crisis would come to an end and we could get on with preparing for the coming season. What Everton "legend" would do that?

Not a legend, but did a massive job for us, and in return we revived his career.

Prick off the field, but then so is Pienaar.

Wasn't born when he was playing for us, so all I have to go on in that respect is a few clips of him launching himself into the ball/other people. From what I've read and heard he did play an important role in helping to kick-start the greatest few years in our history, though, so he gets 8/10 there.

As a pundit he made a name for himself as someone who effectively coverd up his lack of tactical knowledge with the tried and tested method of deception: lots of bright colours. I was only a kid when he was doing his half-time analyses on Sky, but even then I knew he was a bit of a d*ck. 3/10

As a pr*ck tease: seemed to me he knew he'd be in over his head as our manager and pulled out accordingly. I don't blame him for that and hold no grudge. 5/10

As a misogynist: his approach to misogyny is disappointing, as it takes on well-established but ultimately cliched forms such as questioning a woman's capacity to understand the offside rule. Although he is Scottish, and therefore biologically conditioned no to respect a lass who isnae pure blinterin' wi' chip fat as she's deep-frying his copy of the Herald and a neep, his lack of imagination in the role is somewhat unsatisfying. 4/10

i hate him, he bigs up everything liverpool and constantly talks us down when commentating. He literally does jizz all over the RS including THAT quote above by summerskin. I was born in 88 so obviously didn't see him play, obviously i've heard he was a great player for us but from the andy drey i see on my screen is not one that strikes me as a former evertonian
