Andrei Kanchelskis appreciation thread

Mcmagic is having a mare here!! Best player I have seen play for Everton by an absolute mile. Was a beacon of light during the dour nineties. Used to sit in the top balcony with my old man as a 10 year old and the thing that I remember most about kanchelskis was the noise at goodison when he got on the ball. First you would here the sounds of the seats flip up as everyone stood up in the whole ground because you knew something would happen. Then there would be a roar as he would do the fullback all ends up before the almost inevitable celebration before he smashed it in!! Great great player and one of only three players I can remember who had that sort of impact on the crowd with the others being Rooney and geri

I wouldn't say he was the best player I have seen play for Everton that goes to Beardsley, but he is definitely the most exciting player to pull on a blue shirt in my 25 years supporting us.

When I was 10 in the Goodison Road stand with my Dad, the best player on the pitch for me was Dave Hickson by a country mile, the crowd
then was every bit as loud in 1956 as it was in 1996. Maybe in 30 years time you will listen to Kanch and have a tear in your remembrance
eye for him, the way I do for Dirty Dave now. But what I do know is Dave Hickson will be in my top 5 Everton players that I love, and maybe
in my top 100 Everton players. I also loved Duncan McMagic (Would you believe) Absolutely brilliant on the eye and I don't think there was just me that loved him. But I also knew his weaknesses. Really good footballers (Even in a mayhem situation) will make time to look-up before
crossing or passing, the only feet Kanchelskis could ever see, were his own.

Andrei Kanchelskis scores against Bolton Wanderers on the 6th Apri 1996. Who Remembers Marc Hottiger, seventeen appearances for the blues and his only goal in this game!

Did I just read somebody compare him to Radzinski? My god!! That's possibly the worst comparison of two players I've ever seen or heard of.

He was, quite simply, one of the best players ever to play for us and was at the time the best player in his position in the world.

I am sorry to have given the wrong opinion about Beardsley, I think that even though he played for the RS, he was a real player.
Kanchelskis was very similar to Radzinski ....a headless chicken. Anything good from Kanch was done at Man U.

Man, were you "out of it" during this period?

Kanchelskis ad Radzinski were not alike at all.

only in the pace department wasn't it, other than that they were chalk and cheese.

I remember a game where Kanchelskis scored ( think it may have been against Sheffield Wednesday at home when Branch made his debut ), scores a great goal and runs to the corner of the street end and no one celebrates with him ( or maybe 1 player does ). Always thought that was strange at the time, sure he was sold that season. Always wondered if the players were getting sick of his one man virtuoso performances.

Played boss that game as well!
