Andrei Kanchelskis appreciation thread

I loved the 95-96 season with Andrei. It was the first time I'd seen a good Everton side. Fond childhood memories of Tony Grant lofting balls over the top and Kanchelskis burning past the defence and beating the 'keeper at his near post.

I think at the end of that season we bought Gary Speed, who was a good signing. But we were a top CB and striker away from being an excellent side then. A bit like today.

Reading some extracts from his book he said there was talk about him going to Middlesbrough to join up with Brian Robson, Joe Royle heard about it and went to see
Andre, and said " you don't want to go up there, it's like Chernobyl " .

A really good guy, my cousin is always out drinking with him and his son. He has face timed me a few times, is strange chatting to him especially when his opening line when we first meet was " your cousin tells me, you cried when I signed from Man U" haha. Top guy and an amazing footballer.

That's one of the stupidest things I've ever read on this forum.

Like comparing Gary Stevens to Paul Holmes.
I don't believe that for one minute you've never read something so silly on this forum.
As for a comparison, I cannot remember Paul Holmes finishing someones career, and I can't remember him passing to Whelan
and losing the FA Cup to the RS.

Molby mate I think, that was the one area of Shaggys game that concerned me and it came home to roost unfortunately that day, his concentration could lapse, great athlete, strong and powerful though.

His season was the first season that me and my best mate sat on our own together away from our dad's.

The pair of us sat next to each other in the front row of the Family Enclosure and what a sight it was watching him murder full backs with pure pace.

Thinking back now we where only a couple of players away from a real challenge.

I always got the feeling he was giving 100%.
Not because he was giving 100% to Everton, it was the feeling he'd give 100% to anyone he played for, can't help but admire that, a rare honesty.
