It was a real mixed bag performance. Won the ball a lot, and really tried to make plays and get the ball to DCL/Richarlison.
The problem was that most of his possession play wasn't good enough. This is one area that Davies has particularly improved on - that ball up to the forwards - and we've actually scored a number of goals from them (Liverpool, Man Utd etc).
One thing that fans are missing is that the effort is there and you can see he's mentally stronger too. He could yet be a great player again for us and he gets slated even when he's played well recently.

He's more suited to a midfield 3 than a midfield 2. They were outnumbered 3-2 last night which is significant . Much better once Allan joined the fray.
Davies' form has overtaken him in the pecking order and Gomes wouldn't be in our first choice XI but is a quality squad player with a lot to offer.
Last night wasn't his best game but his form overall since the turn of the year has been decent. Doesn't warrant the level of criticism he gets.

Couldn't disagree more Zat. If we get Europe we'll need a bigger squad and he'll be important to us. We have nobody from the U23s ready to step up in that position yet
The midfield does still need some work. Delph is a passenger, Gbamin is a huge unknown, Gomes you suspect still has a hangover from his own horror injury, Bernard seems to be on his way out, Iwobi is hugely inconsistent, and James and Allen have not been ever-present due to injury problems. You suspect this is a major reason why we've been largely resorting to grinding out wins and getting goals via set pieces for much of the last few months, with this especially so when we're playing essentially a centreback at right back.

That’s just him being normal. He’s so slow, weak, gets robbed in possession and lets players run past him, like he’s standing still.
