Popping my head in briefly to say, just because his flaws weren't so blindingly obvious due to having two energetic midfielders next to him to cover, doesn't mean he actually did anything particularly good.

Should still be jibbed off at the earliest opportunity. Byeeeeee

Don't know how you can have that opinion, but you are obviously entitled to it. He was excellent in the first half, spraying balls about with minimum effort. He was instrumental to all that was good. He obviously tired in the second. He's just such a lovely footballer. Links play, moves forward and opens space at the right time. Pressed at the right times as well. We are lucky to have him.

He still was dispossessed way too easily a couple times today. I loved his distribution for the most part tho.

No one has a perfect game, Allan got dispossessed/or shrugged off more to the point that led to a big chance for Spurs and he still played really well. Gomes did ok today, not his best but for the limited games and still not long recovered from the leg break he is entitled to that. He is someone else who is tidy and can hold on to the ball and when you have 4/5/6 footballers on a team then we are less likely to be overran by our opponents in a game. I hope to continue to see improvements but Gomes is not the weak link in the team, there are 3 to 4 others that we need to concentrate on first.

That's fair enough and I wish I felt the same way ha! I just feel he's a decent passer but nothing more, and def not good enough to warrant having to cover for him when out of possession. I know I'm hugely in the minority here.

I think he'll benefit massively from no longer being our 'best' or 'only' midfielder. The pressure is off in one sense inasmuch as he doesn't have to feel like it's all on him to carry the midfield, but it's also on him in a different way to perform with those around him to keep his place and that's exactly how it should be.

Carlo rates him. That's good enough for me.

He was another of the players who looked calmed by the competence of the new trio. I was worried our midfield vacuum broke him last season, but I thought there were signs he’s on the way back to his best yesterday.

Watching the highlights and he was fine, very neat and tidy, still playing well within himself but once he gets some confidence and fitness he'll do well.
