2020/21 Andre Gomes

two of his teammates are at least one level below him when it comes to defending, so I’d say no...you are wrong. Two of them are Osman-levels of defending from midfield

Gomes is not great but worst...nah. I’d say that is definitely an exaggeration
Which two? You'll say Davies and I disagree even if Davies is bad too. Honestly no one else even deserves a mention.

Do one mate honestly. Gomes is a horrid player when the other team has the ball and even if Tom is mostly too he's got at least half a brain about positioning in a way Andre doesn't. It isn't being an authority as much as I'll just call a spade a spade while you all will cling on to hope because Andre has nice hair and Bernard smiles.
OK pal, nice one.

For the record I've said for 18 months that Gomes is garbage.

He's only shown glimpses of what he is capable of since his injury.

For a player who looked like he should be one of the first names on the team sheet, his position in the team is very questionable.

Let's hope he comes good again

well for me it’s blindingly obvious that Siggurdson runs around in our half to very little effect and seems to pull out of tackles (granted Gomes has shirked a couple recently but Sigg has been doing that a while) he regularly lets us get run through for fun by the opposition

also Davies since he first started has amazed me by how few challenges he makes where he actually comes out with the ball. It’s incredible.

So no, no way that even after two particularly bad games by Gomes would I put him near those two for defensive ineptitude.

however we can probably all agree it would be nice to start next season with much better options

Kenny was not that bad today the majority of crosses came from him - plus if he had been on the pitch no 2nd goal ....
Carlo got 4 out of ten today the keeper played well for us Mina a liability plus a slow mid field with no wingers did us ......
Thought Kenny was poor. But not our worse player. But still not good enough for where we want to be.. And I should also have mentioned Mina. He's hopefully out when Holgate is fully fit again. Maybe even give Braithwaite a game.

And you are spot on. the slow play of Siggy and Gomes and Delph is just not working. never did work....So don't no why the management thought it would work today. And team selection from Don Carlo....
Doucoure and Allan also need to.step up. But cannot be to critical yet of those two. Give them a chance. Hopefully they step up when Richarlson and Rodriquez are back. Having better players around them. They now know that our back up players are just not that good.
The others mentioned above have been useless now for the past year.

And yes you are right. No wingers. But who do you play out wide?
As pointed out earlier on this thread , Anchelotti doesn't favour youngsters. So Gordon doesn't get started. Maybe Anchelotti didn't need that many youngsters at his previous clubs. But this is Everton. He might need to have a rethink.
I just wish that he would try something different.
Going with the old tried and tested rubbish from last season has gained us no points. No points. So try something different.
Not much point having Gordon and Simms on the bench. Then throwing on Iwobi and Bernard. Not going to win many matches with those two coming to the rescue. Pointless..........just pointless.
Rant over Joey........take care........Up the Toffees. Don Carlos shaky old Toffees.

The thing for me is that Sigurdsson and Davies position themselves reasonably well. All 3 get ghosted past with ease but Gomes also doesn't ever get in a passing lane or force the ball to a less dangerous area. I thkn Davies and Sig do at times. Add in the fouling, which Davies is also guilty of, and for me he goes to the top. Pulling out of tackles isn't a thing I go crazy about the same as most. Not fouling when your beaten to the ball is a positive unless it is imminently leading to a scoring chance.

And that's not to say the others are good, just that for me Andre is ahead of them. They all stink really but Andre is the one who seems to be in favor and also the one who seems to get the excuses made for him on here, which I can't stand. He's not good enough because he isn't good enough.

I am completely baffled. Not too long ago, he was clearly a class above everyone else in our midfield. I couldn't believe we had acquired him. Now, he is such a impediment to our team, I am at a loss. I know the injury was significant and I fear that he will never come close to the player he was when he first joined us. He is struggling with simple passes. He has never been pacy or good defensively but his ball control, retention, and passing more than made up for it. He has few of those qualities it appears anymore.

For me it is simple: he used to have Idrissa Gueye next to him. Now he doesn't and all the stuff he doesn't do matters more.

its pulling out of challenges and also not properly competing in challenges, it’s not about giving up on challenges when they are beaten to the ball. It’s about 50-50s where Siggurdson demonstrably make less effort to win it than his opponent.....or where Davies has gone in and AGAIN the opponent comes away with it. (In Davies case I don’t see it as lack of effort, just lack of talent and strength)

Gomes gets more leeway because he has been in and out of the team with injury so he gets some allowance for that. He gets allowance for not noticeably half-arsing it for a long long period like Siggurdson and not being as lost on the field as Davies. He may soon run out of that good will however, but it’s very clear to me why he is favoured over them and is shown more patience for now.....and my main image of him so far this season is him performing his role pretty well until the last two games in a team that went top of the table.

I think he's just slow. I don't think Gylfi has ever been lacking in effort to the extent that people say. I said it in his thread: he's just not that good. He isn't a coward or something.

Gomes gets leeway because sometimes he isn't playing but when he is playing he is pretty much always the same guy. So the leeway should stop.

No pace... check.
No goals... check.
Very few assists... check.
No aggression... check.
Sloppy in possession... check.

Thats pretty damming stuff. Bench player at best now, and hopefully finds a new home at the end of the season.
