If Gomes hadn't broke his leg it was never a red. However in the rules any tackle that does or could cause an injury is deemed a red. As we've ended up with a serious injury he had to be sent off as he committed a foul that endangered an opponent even though I'm sure he never meant it to happen.

However, the injury isn’t on Heung Min Son who was clearly devastated. The club should be handing out lifetime bans to the fans who were throwing racist abuse at him as he left the pitch, as well as the usual mutants on Twitter. That’s not Everton.
