One stat that I'm not sure how one can quantify though, and that's the "midfielder getting the ball, holding onto it for a bit, relieving a 5 minute assault on our goal". In that stat, he's proven invaluable for us.

I can see why Barcelona signed him but I can also understand why they are eager to jib him. Also the reason why Brands preferred a loan rather than an outright purchase.

Agree with much above. If we could sign him for £20-£25m or so then it would be great. However, anything more or close to £40m I think we'd be better off looking elsewhere for a more tangible return on goals/assists.

That said, even if we do sign him this summer, I still think we need another centre mid.

Tbf though, when he hasn’t done that, our side gets absolutely hammered. That tells me that he needs to show more consistency, but I definitely see his worth.
