Top 4. We have to be pushing for top 4. We have been nearly there for a few years, time to crack it again. Anything less will be a disappointment, as it has been for the last few years. Delusional perhaps, and I understand that top 6 or 7 is where we are currently at, but I will always expect us to do better next year than last.

Lol at RBJ essay when he asked for one paragraph. Anyway didn't like like the Gwladys Street Glare but that was caused by the supporters booing his subs, was the first time the fans ever really questioned Moyes and he didn't take it well. , but i'm not sure he was after the Spurs job, maybe pissed off that they didn't want to even speak to him but he was groomed for the Man u job.

It will be an interesting season.

Huge changes behind the scene. And I think people underestimate how much impact this will have with big changes to the defensive shape (something Moyes excelled at), fitness coaching, training etc

If we get off to a good start I can see a reasonable season where we finish 7th/8th. Decent chance of a cup run. Looking forward to some freedom being given to the likes of Barkley, Deufelou, Mirrallas etc which might result in some excitement.

A bad start, particularly defensively, will see nervousness from the crowd. For all the plaudits Martinez has got for his footballing principles he needs to show that he can adapt his style when circumstances dictate. He failed to do this at Wigan.

That last comment is patently not true. The season before they finally went down, it was Martinez adapting his system to deal with the teams failings that resulted in an amazing run of nine games or so that kept them up. I do agree, however, that any changes must not be at the expense of leaking more goals. If anything, our defence needs tightening up, because we were vulnerable, particularly from the wings, Baines and Colman both struggling on ossasions to get back quickly enough from their attacking sorties. Distin had a great season, and a lot of the time his cover for Baines went unheralded. But youre right...it will be an interesting season, as long as its not just an interesting few weeks, then panic stricken from November onwards !

I reckon we'll finish between 12th and 6th this season. It's Martinez's first season and the squads around us have strengthened significantly, so it'll be tough for us to be in the hunt for a full league season. I think we will be able to have a run in the cup but I'm up in the air about whether we are capable of winning one. I think we could win the League Cup if Martinez took it seriously, but I think he'll play a weakened side in that tournament. Overall, I think this will be a year where we find our feet under the new manager, with goals to challenging higher the following season.

Not a highly optimistic view but realistic IMO

ditto

...what RBJ said. Beautifully articulate, passionate sentiments ; well done that man. I too enjoyed Wigan's style and last year said to my EFC loving brother (who lives in UK - I'm in NZ) : "would love RM to be our manager". He was in 100% agreement. And now, here we are. The stars have aligned. Make no mistake my fellow Everton lovers, we are on the cusp of something big....and wonderful.

I want us to consolidate our position for RM's first season, i'm not sure it's possible just yet too breach the top four unless we buy a couple more 'starters' who are going to go straight in the side. Anyway we will finish 5th-9th IMO. What I do hope is that we produce school of science football again and make the club proud to own that moniker again instead of being embarrassed to say it for so long. Lastly it would be great to win the League Cup for the first time ever and the FA Cup is, well, magical for me so always want a win that.
