Take that money, buy another version of Onana from France/Belgium (before he signs for Lille), a forward (the Danish kid in italy is flavour of the moment) and pocket the rest to balance the books.
Easy right??? right????
The lad from Brighton supposed to be going for £75 million. I don’t think £70 million is unreasonable.
in our financial position , we will have to accept any reasonable offer for any player regardless of whether ultimately we want to keep them or not - see Richarlison and Gordon. As Onana and Pickford are the only assets likely to attract attention they are likely to be off in the next window I would suggest.
Some things to consider:
1: Onana seems to be the 'dream' Dyche player in terms of mentality, build and skillset. Hes spoke of him in glowing terms. Could he be our 'Zaha' or 'Rice' that improves next season and becomes our talisman?
2: We arent far off the stadium being built which, in theory should mean far larger revenue and clear us of FFP concerns. To make the most of this, we'd need players like Onana 'could become' and a higher league position.
3: What do we 'really' require this summer? Replacements for Gana, Iwobi, Calvert-Lewin and Doucoure.
4: Bids of £45mil (Gallagher) and £25mil (Ndiaye) were rumoured in Jan. How much is in the pot and are there any other players we could sell to generate funds e.g Pickford, Maupay, Iwobi, Doucoure, Holgate, Keane etc?
5: Our team needs a change of mentality. Our captain is on the way to retirement and others like Pickford and Tarkowski dont bring anything 'new'. Onana could signal a 'changing of the guard' and mentality.
Depending on whether we have funds that could replace starters (3) or could generate additional funds required from selling players to rebuild (4) I think it would be briliant to keep him.
But of course, if we did sell then the recruitment would need to be spot on. Selling Onana and replacing with 2 new young players...
...Thelwell and Dyche would need to be very confident that they would also be rated at £70mil each in 12 months time.
I just cant shake the feeling that we need to build the team around him.
