Allardyce Revisited

Shhh! You’ll get in the way of the myth creation. It’s fascinating to watch people convincing themselves a rather mediocre manager is the answer to our prayers. I’m intrigued how even the West Ham success is being attributed to him.
Still, we are now grinding out results which keeps me contented, for the present.

West Ham match was Unsworth. Admitted to by all parties.

So he's beaten so far - and in a timely, needed fashion - Huddersfield (crap) Newcastle (very very crap) and Apollon (horrible, dead-rubber match in which Sam didn't deign to travel). A draw against the Kopites (as achieved by Pardew the following week) rounds it off.

.... and people are flipping their stances on this??? Madness.

Allardyce Revisited... when all of his matches have been within half a month. Amazing. It's the genius of the Corbyn campaign - you can steer public opinion so so easily within four weeks.

It's no myth that Allardyce has turned round the fortunes of several clubs.

That's not a myth. It happened and it shows every sign of happening at Everton.

Of course there are plenty folk willing him to fail. I can't understand that way of thinking.

A club that had qualified for Europe and made a poor start to the season, that had England's all time top scorer playing for it?

Terrible, our poor fortunes. Thank god someone saved us.

I just think at times it's a case of kopitis with some, like when the RS convince themselves that a player who is just alright (Lucas for example) is actually world class, but as soon as he hit a bad patch he got slated to death by the beauts, then he would have a few good games again, leading to him once again being 'world class' same will happen with Allardyce, he'll be labelled a boss manager as long as we're winning, and gash (calls for him to be sacked) when we're not, by the same lads.

Mad isn't it? In two weeks, we've gone from posts saying a splinter FC St Domingos needed to be considered to Allardyce just needed a chance and will now be the one to 'save' us (from what, we aren't quite sure).

One month ago, Allardyce would have been unpalatable for the vast majority. In less that half that time, we have 'Allardyce Revisited'. It's a bit pathetic.

Strange thread to start after him only actually overseeing a few games (waits for Allardyce Revisited......Revisited)

Allardyce revisited can only be a valid article IMO when it is written a year after he's departed and we realise the absolute mess he has left behind

Happy with results ofc - but can't understand any person who had strong opinions about Allardyce based upon him as a person and what damage he causes long term to clubs changing their opinion on him because we ground out a few results and some players realised they couldn't mail it in any-more.

You're the man when it comes to sensible stuff like this StevonFrandel.

Imagine having so little courage in your convictions that you do a volte-face inside two weeks. If we'd won the Derby, I'd have understood it to an extent. Or a Cup.

But Huddersfield at home? Newcastle (1 point in 24) and Appollon away?

I've seen DCL, Kenny and Holgate referred to as 'The Class of '17' (parallels with the '92 United side intended). That's the DCL who has been rightly derided for much of the season as not yet good enough, Kenny who was ripped apart for his performance against Leicester (when he was fed to the wolves by Williams / Jagielka) and Holgate (who was pilloried after Bournemouth at home).

Amazing.

It's called being a football fan.... it's the same the world over .... we are creatures of passion , and get carried away easily in either direction.... it's why we keep coming back for more

After Atlanta and Southampton Rooney himself said that we were in a relegation battle.
No-one is suggesting he's HK Mk1 but he has made a solid start andsteadied the ship. It's plain to see the improvements all over the pitch.
Give him a fair chance to manage us. He has an 18m contract - so we're going to be paying him however he does.
Compared to the last few weeks of Koeman he's like a messiah.

I remain skeptical as regards us having attained 'escape velocity' from the gravity of a relegation dog-fight. Good recent results, yes, but largely woeful performances combining large slices of luck.

In short then regarding Allardyce?: the jury is still out and may remain so for some time.
