No doubt there are big question marks, but I am more optimistic than most, particularly on Gomes.

I think Gomes suffered due to the partners/ghosts that we dished up next to him. If Allan and/or Gbamin can play the high energy box-to-box role, that will really bring Gomes back into it. Doesn't have to worry about chasing blokes around all day, he can play his game which is high level distribution.

If we can get one more young CM in on top of Allan and get rid of Davies and Sigg, that would be brilliant work.

That Santamaria lad sounds intriguing. Never seen him play but reading up on him looks a good player.

Hes like Besic without the injuries, but my biggest fear is that he thinks he's proper solid and then Mark Noble cracks his ankle and he's off back to Italy on the first ryan air.

Totally agree. In the 4 midfield positions at the moment only Gordon really gets a tick.

In an ideal world we need 7 more playere there to start/rotate around.

I would hope the idea is to bring Allan in as the consistent 7/10 performer every game. Then over the next 3 seasons totally rebuild the midfield.

I think we can live with our left sided options this season. Gordon and a Bernard should be fine (particularly if we actually have a central midfield). Then you have Iwobi and even Richy if needed.

we are so desperate for quality and steel in the midfield.I hope Allans work rate, his ability to control the ball in tight areas and to be calm under pressure will bring out the best in Gomes. Say that happens we are STILL lacking quality in the right.
