We do have a young core. Holgate, Davies and DCL has been the spine of the team, which is a problem. We do need to add experience in there but it has to be alongisde quality. We have a fair few 29 - 33 year olds already but they're mostly garbage or just not arsed whatsoever.
We all want to sign upcoming talent but there has to be a balance between getting these young fellas in and giving them time, with players who have already got the t-shirt, who can not only lead by example but also perform on the pitch to benefit the team.
It would appear CA has taken a look at this team and seen no presence in midfield, and immediately knows Allan fits the bit that we need. Yes there will be no re-sale value, but when you sign a 29 year old re-sale cant come into the thinking. It's a short-term fix but Allan coming in could gain us a few league places, which recoups some money and also gives us time to find or bed in that younger player who can do the same role.
It's all about balance.
