Tbf.... we need experience and leadership today. short term fix is critical now, we cannot afford to drop off now with what we have. We are in a period of having a world class manager and moving into a world class stadium in 4-5 years. We need to maintain momentum on the pitch, development opportunities will come but can we afford another 18 months bedding in young players. I would even say Thiago Silva at the back is also what we need now and to offer experience to Holgate / Gibson / Mina / Branthwaite- we have some serious young talent that need mentors and leadership on and off the pitch. And it’s not my money, the money men know the risks

If he was also to run over Davies’ skateboard and use the resulting rage to turn Tom into a snide that would destroy other teams then that would also be welcomed.

We already have a really young squad, that is part of the problem really, because all the older guys we have starting aren't leaders at all. It's just walcott and siggurdsson, neither of which are very vocal. Same with keane.

We all want to sign upcoming talent but there has to be a balance between getting these young fellas in and giving them time, with players who have already got the t-shirt, who can not only lead by example but also perform on the pitch to benefit the team.

It would appear CA has taken a look at this team and seen no presence in midfield, and immediately knows Allan fits the bit that we need. Yes there will be no re-sale value, but when you sign a 29 year old re-sale cant come into the thinking. It's a short-term fix but Allan coming in could gain us a few league places, which recoups some money and also gives us time to find or bed in that younger player who can do the same role.

It's all about balance.

Totally agree. In the 4 midfield positions at the moment only Gordon really gets a tick.

In an ideal world we need 7 more playere there to start/rotate around.

I would hope the idea is to bring Allan in as the consistent 7/10 performer every game. Then over the next 3 seasons totally rebuild the midfield.

Agree with this, and if you add in Richie and Kean then a young core of Holgate, DCL, Richie, Kean and Gordon is strong, can also contemplate throwing in Branthwaite to this as well. Jury out squad members Gbamin and Iwobi are also only 24.

If we managed to get Allan in, plus a younger CM and RM, and shipped out Siggurdsson and the other dead wood then we are well positioned out of this transfer window.

One thing you can't have a big crack at Brands about is the age profile he is trying to develop.

I think it's a bit premature to think that would be passable much less "compete". We have no idea if Gblammo is going to even be able to play at a high level again, Delph is a sicknote and Gomes was just...not good after the "restart". That leaves us with Tom fn Davies and I want no part of that if we can get away from it. Another CM is absolutely still a priority imo..

No doubt there are big question marks, but I am more optimistic than most, particularly on Gomes.

I think Gomes suffered due to the partners/ghosts that we dished up next to him. If Allan and/or Gbamin can play the high energy box-to-box role, that will really bring Gomes back into it. Doesn't have to worry about chasing blokes around all day, he can play his game which is high level distribution.

If we can get one more young CM in on top of Allan and get rid of Davies and Sigg, that would be brilliant work.
