Haha.... tartan! Cos he's scottish!

It was a reference back to 2013.....“ALEX SALMOND charged the taxpayer more than £250 for a pair of tartan trews – after forgetting to take his own on a trip to China.
The First Minister was accused of a cover-up yesterday after it emerged he didn’t pay the money back until the media asked questions.“....

BBC...”A former Scottish government official has accused Alex Salmond of trying to rape her in his official residence while he was the country's first minister.
The woman told a court that the former SNP leader "pounced" on her and took her clothes off.
She claimed he ignored her pleas to stop and pushed her onto a bed before lying naked on top of her.
Mr Salmond denies carrying out a total of 14 sexual assaults on 10 women.“

It was once the case that the alleged perpetrator received anonymity, but this was a nightmare for investigations: I need to take this evidence but I can't tell you why.
Ahhhh it’s all abit mad. I understand they don’t want to humiliate her as she is being brave coming out. However if it comes out he done nothing wrong, his name is tarnished and she gets away scot free.

I’ve never really minded Alex Salmond to be honest but this is a pretty damning set of allegations from 10 different women. Got to assume at least some level of guilt.
Sturgeon (who i have quite a bit of respect for) is pretty close to him and they had meetings after the allegations surfaced when she should have kept her distance and let due process run its course.

Oh I totally understand, however because of the nature of the evidence in many such cases (one account versus the other) the decision is to make it easier.

Unfortunately, many countless women in the past have either been to afraid to make allegations in fear of being turned into a pariah or have and then suffered it.

It is very easy for a defence to portray the alleged victim in a very negative light, which rightly or wrongly can stick. That's the main basis for giving anonymity.

What it does allow is for men or women to make false and malicious allegations, which will unfortunately tarnish the alleged perpetrator, which in turn sticks.

It's far from a perfect system because of the above, but honestly it's better than it has been. Rape or sexual assaults convictions are terribly hard to actually get.

Anything to improve this is balanced against the possible cons.
