Why is this back in the news? It was announced back in in March and he was in the papers complaining about how the BBC had shafted him and shown no respect. No time for him as a commentator, always seemed to take a "poor me" attitude talking about how bad the weather at the game was or how far he had to walk from a car park etc. I really enjoyed the times when he would say " and Smicer wins it for Liverpool... " only for an even later goal to even things up.

The self centred kopite cooked his own goose and made an absolute bell of himself by his predictions that the Russia world cup a couple of years ago would be the most violent on record. He then stated to the BBC that they should not waste their time by asking him to go to commentate on games. So they didn't, sparing him the sight of one of the most peaceful tournaments and good football as well.
The BBC realised they could do without him and that suits me.
Will not be missed.

One of favourite memories of a car journey listening to him commentate on a league cup tie when Arsenal sent their U17’s to the pit and were 6-1 up with half an hour to go. You could hear the panic in his voice that it could get to double figures.

I've related this story before, but it bears repetition, I think.

When Liverpool were playing Aston Villa in the FA Cup semi-final a few years ago, he was commentating. I was driving home that day, and had forgotten all about the game. At about 5 pm I suddenly remembered the gme was on, and switched on Radio 5. The game was in injury time, and Alan Green was almost literally in tears, you could hear the despair in his voice. "Hey, Liverpool must be losing!" I thought to myself, and, sure enough, Villa were ahead, and went through, incidentally spoiling Steve Gerrard's chance to lose a cup final on his birthday.

:dance::celebrate:
