As I said Danny- what else is he going to [Poor language removed] say?! Seriously?

I personally think it is fantastic news and Im an Evertonian.

'We are pleased Andy has signed an extension and we look forward to seeing him repay our faith on the field'

You know? Something along them [Poor language removed] lines. (I can also randomly put the word [Poor language removed] in sentences).

Yeh I agree that was abit random, I dont actually know where it '[Poor language removed]' came from either.

Ok I see where you are coming from all though I completely disagree. Sensationalism sells at whatever level you look at it, fantastic is more motivating than good. And at the end of the day I think the offering of a new contract goes hand in hand with the club hoping he repays the faith. Some things dont need to be said.

We only signed him last year, am not sure about everyone else but I expected him to stay??? Unless of course David Moyes wanted rid. He has four bloody years on his contract ffs. Saying 'This deal further underlines our commitment to keep our best players at our club' is pathetic. Not only will the 'best players' bit annoy some players, it makes us look like we expect to lose players to the likes of West Ham - which this story has undoubtedly been angled on.

You are really clutching at straws now- players accept that some players are bigger players than others. AJ is a good goal scorer and therefore a bigger player for us than VAlente- agree?

And who says West Ham- what about if Manure came in for him? Helps that he is tied to 5 years.

Who says West Ham?

The BBC and SkySports on their updates that AJ has signed a new deal.

To be fair he has and hopefully once his injuries are past him his form will pick up.

However, its not a case of getting on AJ's back, the point that some fans are asking is why should a player who hasnt done anything special be rewarded with a new contract. The fact that its AJ is irrelevant, its more WHY is he being handed a new contract that is the odd thing.

I dont think any of us are having a go at AJ, but more questioning the motives behind this new contract. Clearly something has happened behind the scenes as its nothing to do with the players form. Any intelligent fan would ask this question in my opinion.

Well I suppose I was aiming a bit at some comments now questioning his commitment and goal scoring ability, and the 'do we now actually need him'
type comments. Seems, now Yak has scored a goal it's AJ bashing time for some.

I accept it's puzzling why a 4 year contract needs renewing, but I think, as I said, it's to quash all this unsettling tabloid talk.

You quash it by saying "AJ signed a five year deal with us last season and we're looking forward to achieving great success with him over the remaining four years of his contract".

I just find it strange that you award a new contract at a time when the player hasn't played well for a while. Surely rewards come after good things?

Well, you can re-affirm last seasons intentions, but there are now clubs out there who would love AJ in their team, and probably would have funds to up his wages. We've also got negative tabloid talk regarding the matter, that won't go away.

I'm only guessing here, but to make sure there's no chance of him being tempted to leave, we're aligning his wages with the 'best' players at the club.

I don't think Moyes is overly concerned about his current form - he knows exactly what to expect from AJ, and now his injuries appear to be clearing up, I think we'll see his best again before too long - long-term investment.

What?! I think you misunderstand what I meant. Ok West Ham have been linked through the media but whats to say any other team werent interested? We as fans dont know everything, we know what we are told.

Anyway I dont really understand how it can be a negative thing for us? I rate AJ as one of the top two strikers at the club.

Yak has come in on lumpy wages, Arteta and Cahill have no doubt had pay rises. So why shouldnt AJ be on the same os them? Things have changed since he signed his contract last year and he is now on a par with them.

I dont see anything wrong with this at all. And I still stand by that this is good news for the club.

Agree with you Mick, this is a coup. Plus it gives Kenwright to flash his teeth and sparkle with the Hollywood stars. "Yes I am here, and Yes I am improving this club"

All this means is that for the forseeable future, someone is gonna have to pay out the ass to pry him out of our mittens.

Man this thread is like watching Squash.

Plenty of running and sweating but nothing going anywhere. No conspiracies here folks.

Its good news, we dont know anything else other than 'he signed a new deal'

Now our three best players are all on equal ground, and all finish there contracts at the same time.

Moyes is just housekeeping.

Strange thread this.

I rate Johnson as one of our best two strikers, now he has some quality around him he will score a bucketful - have faith in the lad. He very, very important to the side when he's at full pelt, now he's got the injury out of the way you will see why.

Im made up and can see why Bill would be too, we've got our best players secured on long deals. Next: Lescott.
