Aiden McGeady

Up and down game for him.

Hope Blues don't write him off because of that though, he looked better than Mirallas and Deulofeu IMO.
Spot on. Not only was he better on the night he has had far less time on the pitch than the other two and deserves a far greater leeway in terms of wastefulness because he has been far more economic with his time.

We must have been watching a different game. He failed to beat his man 2 or 3 times max out of 10, which is very very good. His crosses were miles away because our players were miles away, many of them went into good areas.

So he crossed without looking up then and gave the ball to the opposition = poor.

The strange thing is that he doesn't seem to have understanding with his teammates. He has good dribbling skills no doubt but he needs to cross right before his teammates getting into position inside the penalty area. if not his crossing are wasted.

I still think Pienaar is at another level in terms of his understanding with Baines etc. We need more option. McGeady is a good old school winger but I think he should be a sub for the time being as his understanding with his teammates is building up through time and training.

He needs a run of games and the summer to get properly fit.
He was ok last night probably one of our better players in an awful 1st half

Yer I wonder why that could be?

If we had Naismith in the box when his crosses were going in we might have had a chance. Palace defended superbly though to be fair.

A winger who beats full backs consistently and pulls back crosses for team mates. Team mates dont convert.

There's no McGeady problem.

The problem in the 1st half was when mcgeady did get his crosses in we only had 1 or 2 in the box against their 5 or 6.
We need to mix it up more because we do try to thread the ball through 5 or 6 players too often and like last night the opposition then break on us

Well, it is the opposition box, so you expect defenders to outnumber attackers. The crosses McGeady delivered were not fought for very hard by Lukaku and Mirallas in particular. The only problem I'd have with his delivery is that he doesn't get much power into them and he tries to chip/float too many in.

I think he is still finding his way.
He is a confidence player and we will see what he is really about next season

I like McGeady and he has great ball control and dribbling skills but my only gripe sort of is that it is not done at speed. He faces his opponent and can beat him but its done at slow pace. Would like to see him do it at pace which would obviously cause more problems. Saying that...he is still a very very good player and he beats his man more often than not.

Plays far too often with his head down and is not a great team player. Happy to beat a full back and loop a cross in with no target. Reminds me of a few Scottish wingers in the sixties and seventies - now an an almost extinct species.

That' what wingers do.

They move and cross the ball at speed.

They rarely have the time to look up.....they play on instinct.

McGeady's job is to deliver the ball into danger areas which he does regularly...what we need is attackers charging into those danger areas.

Although we are so weak as an aerial attacking force both from open play and from corners I am wondering is McGeady the wrong man for us.

His best work is wasted.

I think he's ace, unbelievebly quick, likes to beat his man, the confidence to run with the ball whilst looking around will come with games.
Players get better as they play consistently... Naismith will confirm this.
Prefer him to Deulofeu to be honest, but not by much.
Don't care which of the attacking mids Martinez puts out, they are all capable of ace things, this lads no exception.
