Suez was a canal, we have lost an entire country with Afghanistan in a matter of days after 20 years of nation building... Which is now cosy with CCP... Iraq is still in the sphere of western influences.

Afghanistan as foreign policy is by far the worst calamitous in how we left, does not matter to me whether Trump or Biden did what.

What the UK did as in very little in getting all our people out is nothing but short of cowardice of the highest order, considering we had many months warning be that with Trump or extension with Biden we knew this was happening.

We failed the brave people who supported our miltray efforts. Shameful!

Don't trust the British...

Pete this Blackhawk is painted in the Afgan air force colors.

Blackhawks were supplied to the Afgan military in the hope that they would defend themselves while being better equipped.

I guarantee the person flying it turned his back on the Afgan air force or is being forced by the taliban to fly it.

It's also absolutely useless without a spares package, specialised tooling/test equipment and engineers.
All 3 I imagine will be in short supply to the Taliban.
So yeah, will get flown til something breaks (a few flights) then left to rot.

Which they would have had unless they were taken and sold by the Afganis when they legged it.

The US gave them helicopters and trained them. They gave them everything they needed etc...

Sure I get if they breakdown and they run out of parts getting more shipped is a big no now haha!

I read that the afghan military was relying on contractors that have now all left the country.

It sounds almost impossible, but the impression I got it that no one in Afghanistan has a clue how to maintain a Blackhawk.

Yep that sounds about right. I'm not sure the US military nor private contractors ever expected to leave there 100%. Given the push back on Trump when he started the process two years ago.

The military knew it would be a no win situation and that there was still things to be done and like you say the locals have no clue on the uses of modern tech. Especially given how old the equipment they had used up until then.

All servicing, spares, logistics and aircraft/vehicle expertise was provided by external US contractors. They legged it when Bagram shut.

Terry is very resourceful though and I'm sure they can get some stuff working - they will have to strip many vehicles/airframes down to use as spares and therefore I don't think they can sustainably maintain a fleet of vehicles and heli's over a period of time.

Eventually they will go back to driving around in modded pickups and flying about in the odd Russian Mi-8, in between bumming goats.

See my above comment. I get that and it makes sense.

Here's the thing though. No one ever expected the US to pull out entirely hence the military worked out deals for equipment and contractors to stay for support.

Anyway my original point was that it was equipment that was purposely left. That is what Pete was alluding too. It was equipment given to them with support to boost their military.

Everything after was a bonus for the taliban.

It won’t be long until Britain is selling them arms. We are in the market for trading partners.

This is probably a dumbass question but who da hell Terry?
