His administration seriously need to get a grip on the situation.

2 Para are actively going out of HKIA into Kabul and bringing back people including Afghans, whilst the US had told its people to make their own way to the airport!

Well that’s not going to work!

Also reports coming in that it’s all kicking off near Panshir valley, with reports of fighting with ANA/Northern alliance re-taking territory from Terry.

I still cannot understand why the USA abandoned Bagram airport. It was positioned to be easily defended and had two runways rather than the one in Kabul. It should have been a case of go to the embassies and helicopter them out to Bagram…but hey sleepy joe knows best…..

It’s been one f-up after the next by his administration.

Bagram was a biggie. Now he has 7000 troops effectively trying to hold HKIA. It’s gonna be real interesting what happens when the time runs out and the 82nd need to collapse the perimeter.

It will be utter chaos

Biden is the proverbial rabbit caught in the headlights……hasn't a clue…..

Why do you think he'll be impeached? Bungling this up is bad and a complete disaster but I don't see any impeachment over it.

Because of wittingly endangering the lives of Americans and allies (reports are Biden ignored advice from his senior staff).

There is grounds for it on that basis, tho' when the likes of Lindsey Graham & MTG are pushing it then so far it's merely partisan political posturing...we will wait and see how the situation develops:

I can't watch those scenes at the airport. Imagine the kind of terror that would compel you to grab on to a plane as it is about to take off
That was horrific. Two young lads among them. Taliban are not banned from Twitter, tho'...so they can't be as bad as Trump.

I think you'll be waiting a long time. I'll make a guess that it'll be the history books that judge him, not an impeachment committee.

Either way, I don't think many support him over this. He's made a very bad situation awful.

On the other hand, let's see what the outside world do to stop any atrocities and moderate Afghanistan. I can't see that going very well either unfortunately.

As @Mutzo Nutzo mentions, it's a result of misguided, disjointed and negligent planning that ignored the elephant in the room - the Taliban's ability.

Bagram, while a significant asset in terms of capability to move troops, was a historical element of the US/Nato presence (occupation) of Afghanistan.

The US wanted to pull out and giving up Bagram was a simple aspect of this in terms of military capability and PR: "Look, we're scaling back to Kabul".

The problem is that they never expected the Taliban to take so much territory so quickly thus ignoring the potential need for Bagram at some point.

Doing a bunk in the night with some suspect tactics (disabling vehicles and equipment) also meant that the place was ransacked before the AFA took control.

Now, like you say Pete, it would be an invaluable asset to help support the evacuation rather than HKIA, which is surrounded and under great strain.

The US are already putting regular air assets over the airport, which might suggest the Taliban get some final blows before they eventually collapse the perimeter.

Greece erects 40km fence on its Turkish border as a response to Afghan immigrant rush. Pitiful.
Greece had a really rough time during the 2015 migrant crisis. It's understandeable they're trying to prevent a repeat.

Afghanistan has proven immune to outside interference over the decades. As disastrous as the Biden admin's attempts have been, to leave is ultimately the right choice. Look at video recordings of the Afghan army forces being trained by the US and you'll see a folk not taking any of it particularly seriously. A lot points to widespread support for strict Sharia Law under the Taliban, despite the reports of panicked refugees, executions etc. I know people who've spent time there...and what some of the locals got up to during the non-Taliban era would make most westerners faint.

This sounds like vague rhetoric based on people you know; how is this relevant?

It's relevant to @Yarrgh wondering what the world can do to help Afghanistan against Taliban atrocities.

i.e. most Afghans want the Taliban back as things were...shall we say...rather seedy without them.

You can't win a nation back with just brute force, you also need to convince a lot of folk that this is the right move, otherwise the Afghan army would've easily defended Kabul against the Taliban.

That many, perhaps the majority, of Afghan folk openly support Sharia (and the Taliban) is no vague rhetoric. It's common knowledge among those who follow the culture.
