AFCON 2025

These appear to be the rules.

Referee's Role & Match Abandonment
  • Referee's Authority: Only the referee can decide to abandon a match if participant welfare is at risk (violence, abuse, serious injury).
  • Team Actions: If a team (players, coach, official) decides to leave or refuse to continue play, it's seen as abandoning the game, even if the referee hasn't officially stopped it.
Consequences for the Offending Team
  • Forfeit: The team that walks off forfeits the match.
  • Awarded Victory: The opposing team is usually awarded a 3-0 victory, or the existing score if it's more favorable to them.
  • Further Sanctions: The relevant football association (FA, FIFA) can impose fines, player suspensions, or disqualify the club from the competition.
Ooof there’ll be some drama to come then possibly

They might get away with it as some of the players, notably Mane, did not go off. Might be a technicality in that (bring on the sports lawyers).

Somehow, someway there will be a repurcussion that affects us in some way. All the players will get a 3 month ban from their clubs or something insane.
