Surely it's the job of the manager to get his young players to a level where he does trust them? I've sympathised in the past with Moyes sticking with experienced players when he needs to get the job done, but he really doesn't give them much of a hand when it comes to the games and positions they play in.

I understand that. But how are we ruining him by not playing him? If he is not up to the mark then I agree he should be shipped out. But my question was really directed to the statement that we're runing him and Barkley 'and that's fecking criminal'. I just don't understand how. If they are good enough they will paly. If not, then why play them just because they are young.
Personally I hope both make it with us but I don't see that waiting until they are ready is damagining them,

Do you actually believe that? Because part of the problem is I don't.

I don't think Moyes picks the best eleven players we have, he picks eleven players who will follow his instructions even if they lack talent. See playing neville, Anichebe and McFadden out of position in midfield over Barkley. And if you compare Rodwell's performances for England with those for us, I think you can see the way playing in a defensive system can curtail a players natural aggressiveness and flair.

We train a players talent out of him, leave him on the bench for three seasons and then flog him to a lower league club.

I love rodwell and I think he will become a cracking player, he needs to stay confident though and believe in himself.

This problem seems to be happening with both him and barkley because they get scared when the do one bad pass or or less confident after an injury that they dont get back to their best form.

Come on JACK!

Rodwell needs to stop being a crab. All of his passes go sideways. He has the ability to be boss, he just lacks the assertiveness and confidence to fulfil his potential. Whether he's always been like that or has had all positivity coached out of him by Moyes is another matter.

This will happen to young barkley unless he gets away from moyes.

David "we give youth a chance only when i've ran out of positions to play Phil Neville in" Moyes.

sad But True, feel sorry for the younger lads while moyes is around to be honest, but what can they do , He has no real Faith or intrest in developing them , just look at were rodwells career has been heading under his guidance (nowere fast), The fall out of this is constantly having to give 30+ year olds bloated , extended contracts beyond there years who will head straight into retirement

Rodwell will be top class. He needs a season injury free and he'll flourish.

If Barkley improves to what is expected of him, and by some miracle we can keep both of them and Fellaini, that's the heart of our midfield sorted for the next 10 years. (with Osman on the wing in 2022)

<wells up>

How many promising players must burst onto the scene, not get regular games and ultimately not make it before we start questioning the coaching and whether we're treating our young prospects properly?
How many have?
There are names like Wallace, Baxter, Vaughan and others who Moyes has given a debut to and they haven't made it at Everton but then again I don't see many former graduates playing for "top 6" clubs, or middle six for that matter.
Is it possible some of them aren't good enough?
Jack Rodwell despite having a few injuries has made over a hundred appearances (68 starts/41 subs) how many 21yr olds are there in the top flight who can say that.
Sure Moyes may start with Neville but that is because he can rely on him and if the number 8 is any kind of inspiration and Jack works hard, maybe Moyes will be able to rely on him too.

I love all this speculation but the professionals who see these players everyday should have a slightly better understanding of a players readiness. Who is to say that Moyes's isn't persisting with them in the hope they realise their potential. For all we know Jack, Ross, James, Jose all of them may be happy to pick up £20,000 a week for doing **** all, so they do **** all cause they know they're talented and someone will give it to them, just a thought.
