Ademola Lookman

I haven't read the thread so dont know if anyone has made this point about Lookman earlier, but does anyone (from the clips seen of him) think he might be short of the sort of acceleration required to cut it in the PL? I've only just taken a look at this player and, though he undoubtedly has a trick or two on the ball, I dont see the type of blistering pace that would make him a menace to PL defenders. I also think he looks a little ponderous on the ball waiting for movement ahead of him and that would be punished at this level.

Last word I heard on him from Koeman was that he's one for the future. I can see what he means. But my concern is he's bought a player who might not have the pace or vision to succeed in the PL and that isn't going to change a lot with waiting.

Around the 2.40 mark Dave is the only vid i found where you see him open up pace wise chasing down a ball to keep it in, lad actually looks like he is fast as hell tbh

Most of the other clips he doesnt to me seem to be opening himself up fully, more dribbling and just doing enough to keep himself ahead of the opponent, hard to say like from youtube etc, but the lad does look a really promising player - and has a bloody rocket of a shot like, be interesting to see him this season adn see how close he is to being ready for this level right now

That's true. Quality of movement ahead is essential for a pass to become 'on'. He'll get that here, especially with Lukaku.

It's more the pace that is the issue - and the constant checking back. PL defenders wont be troubled by that.

Noticed something though, he has a running style that will make him appear slower than he actually is as well mate, lad seems to take a lot of little smaller steps when running rather than striding so to speak (bizarrely Michael Johnson the brilliant US runner did the same) it's a wierd thing but it can alter the way you percieve someones pace.

..genuinely two footed is something I immediately noted when we were linked, the clip from USM FF yesterday showed him finishing with left and right foot. Great attribute to have, can take his full back on either side.
Yeah, he has something. Tbh, if he didn't I wouldn't be arsed talking about him. He's a player with style and you can never get enough of them imo.

I just dont think right now from what I've seen he has the sort of game that could (week in week out - not the odd half a game here and there) trouble the PL.

Yep, that was clearly quick. It's the ONLY time I've seen it so far tbf, but undeniably it is there on that occasion.

A lot of this could come down to what I touched on earlier mate: he looks raw and has a lot of skill off both sides. He looks to me like he has options and doesn't know quite which the best is when he has the ball at his feet moving over ground with it. Until he sorts that decision making out he wont prosper in the PL on a regular basis. You ponder here and you're stripped of the ball and/or on your arse.

Think it was 5 A*'s and 4 A's in his GCSE's. Not Pennington standard but he must be an intelligent boy ! prefer this than some brash lad ! although he does pronounce "th" as "f" :-( Lets hope he improves with age and becomes a top player for us !

Aye same mate, but there isn't that many clips of him out there and most of the oens are either showing the 'fifa' stuff, tricks, turns or shots etc, one thing i did note though (and yeah it is only league 1 standard) but can't remember anyone getting back at him once he passed them unless it was by him turning back into them (which is something which he will need slapping out of him at this level) that shows he has a bit of pace about him

Actually think it looks like he is keeping a check on his speed to help his close control out on most of the clips, will see him soon hopefully and can get a better judge of what hes all about.

Positive signs though, and for an initial 7.5m not upset about it lol

Agree mate, as i just said whilst you where typing as well, he has a nasty habit of turning back into a player to beat him twice etc, if thats something he naturaly does will need it coaching away fromk, then again it could be as you said a lack of options in a poor team meanign he's got nothing else on - in which case it shows some brains rather than try force soemthign that ain't there - keeps possession etc waits to see if something opens up.

He's lightening on FIFA and they're quite spot on if a player is quick/slow.

Tbf Walsh and Koeman know more then you do so

On the subject of pace, he doesn't need to be blisteringly fast over 100, 50 or even 30 yards, in football as in rugby if you have blistering pace over the first 5 to 10 yards it's all you need to give you the advantage you need over your opponent.
