I actually don't think Steve Walsh is the genius / scouting guru he's made out to be. What he is, is a very well liked guy with unbelievable connections and the ability to delegate well to his scouring network.

That said, to say you know more about football (are you actually saying this?!) or spotting a players ability or potential is madness. It's like me watching you cause havoc in this place at a professional level and then saying I know more about it than you. They're professionals near the pinnacle of one of the most competive trades out there, they've lived and breathed the game for well over a century.

I don't don't your incredible appetite for the game or the phenomenal knowhow you bring to the table, but this can't even be that good footballing arrogance, you can't believe this?
It's not arrogance at all. I'm merely saying I dont defer in my judgement to anyone. I dont care who they are. They could be Rinus Michels or Pep Guardiola or Ancelotti. I could give a flying one what they thought of a player if I personally thought they were ropey. What they have to say doesn't sway me one bit. I know what I see and I have faith in that.

Isn't that ^^^ just the way everyone thinks about football? I genuinely dont think people are sheep and will swallow unquestioningly the views of experts if it doesn't tally with their own point of view on a player/manager/situation.

I've never seen him play but I can't help but feel we've been ripped off paying 11m for a league one player. Let's hope he proves me wrong.

Personally I have never seen the lad play, I am not even sure if I had seen him rip Division 1 defences apart I would be convinced he could do the same in the Premiership. But as I have not seen him I have nothing on which to form an opinion.
But, being Everton, I have hope.

Hi mate , welcome to the forum.
Judging by your early posts you dont have a very positive outlook for any topic on here . Hope this changes , maybe will come to understand the money paid for Lookman (7.5 mil up to now) will be real good business for the club ;)

...let's not forget he broke into the Charlton team when they were in the Championship and has pretty much been a regular since, which is some achievement for such a young lad. It's tough transitioning to open age football, he must be physically and mentally strong. Time will tell if he has the ability to cut it at the top level but he looks a talent.

I think (hope) most people are prepared to take in a range of opinions from as many people as possible to form their views, safe in the knowledge that they might not always be right about everything. For example, I'm not in a position to judge Lookman fairly and am prepared to admit that, so hearing from his coaches, team-mates, scouts and fans can help broaden my mind a bit.

It's pretty unhealthy to disregard the thoughts and facts provided by other, better placed sources because you are convinced your belief is the only that is true and the only one that matters. Unless you want to be leader of the free world, that is. Worked okay for him.
