While people like Zat are wetting themselves over 17 year olds in Eastern Europe its easy to forget that we already have players like Mola ready to be all they can be.

and...guess what...we signed him as a teenage England youth international.

Which is what ive been advocating.

We could have waited till a champions league club signed him of course and you could watch him on the telly.

..yes, it makes so much sense to be in the market for these youngsters because they are low cost, low risk and potentially high reward. Young Bowler might be another but it takes a lot of hard work, establishing the right reputation and making good relationships that make these deals happen.

If i'm not wrong
Holgate was 500k rising to 3mil
Galloway again rising to 3mil
DCL rising to 1.5mil
Bowler is 1,5mil rising to 4mil

Lookman I think was 7.5mil rising to 11mil so a bit of a heftier fee.

Interestingly this summer weve brought in Donkor, Mathis and Markelo to the u23s.
Donkor is unwanted at his club
Mathis had a couple of sub games last season
Markelo was the only u19 dutch international outside of their top flight teams

Now, I love bringing in young players more than most on here and i'm sure Unsworth has had these players scouted repeatedly and thinks they can do well for the u23s and push for a squad place, however;

This may be naïve but I'd like us to be known for having a very youthful English conveyor belt coming through. This could be local lads but more likely to be a mixture of those developed and those signed for the u23s. Why English players? It breeds a culture of the club, gets us a reputation and saves us a lot of money in the long run.

Brennan Johnson of Forest was linked at just 15 for 1mil

George Hirst the goal machine from Sheffield Wednesday was 18 in Feb and we bid for him in Jan
https://royalbluemersey.sbnation.co...day-george-hirst-england-youth-striker-Toulon

David Brooks the top player at the Toulon tournament has now just turned 20 and we were strongly linked

Now, I don't know if these players will turn out to be premier league stars. I also don't know why we didn't sign them (after all each of these teams has a price) but I would be really keen on us adding to Bowler and bringing in 3 or 4 players like this every summer on the higher end of quality who would cost money (sometimes its good to get free players but top kids have a premium)

As long as players see that we are attractive and provide a fair route to the first team squad our reputation will continue to increase and players like Lewis Gibson (Newcastle player rumoured to join) will want to leave Chelsea and Man City even to have more of a chance with us.

I'd like us to have a 10mil+ budget each summer for English youth players...but be fair with clubs and create strong ties.

..absolutely, and I think this is a strategy. I recall a quote saying there is an aim to bring in a dedicated number (6?) of youngsters each season. I also recall a number of 'scouts' appointed to make this happen (including Tony Grant?). I'm not one for blooding youngsters per say, they have to be deemed good enough by those in charge but it will help recruitment if a path to the first team is obvious. This will become more difficult now that we can shop in the same market as the top clubs, but I am a believer that the very best young talent will force their way in regardless.

I think Jonjo Kenny's performances at U23 and international level are deserving of a few games in Coleman's absence. I'll be disappointed if that doesn't happen but I will accept if the hierarchy don't think he's up to it.

I was hoping to see Connolly and Kenny get 20+ games each this season. That was before Cuco signed.
DCL I hope he gets more nous from watching other forwards as he needs to add something 'extra'
Dowell, Walsh and Williams I think should go on loan and get as many games as possible ready to come into the squad next summer.
Lookman I'm hoping he's the star of our young lads and he and Davies are pushing for an England cap by season end

For the u23s, I'm sure we have some players like Feeney and Foulds who people see as potentially the next ones to come through.
Bowler has signed and we don't have anyone in the first eleven whose left footed but plays right attack
Gibson the left back is perhaps on his way from Newcastle

It would be nice to see us loosen our chequebook and bring in some u23 players...

Can always do what Chelsea do, sign up loads and loan them out then sell £50m+ worth of talent who never get a game every summer.

when youre getting £8m back for donkeys like kevin stewart whos nearly 24 and barely played it shows the benefits on signing up kids

We already have a good reputation for it but with Walsh and financial backing to take a punt it can only get better

David Brooks definitely worth snapping up. Maybe loan him back to Sheff Utd for a year to gain experience.
