It is because we have youngsters like Lookman, Calvert-Lewin, Davies , Holgate, Galloway, maybe Michael Keane that we are looking to add the experience of a player like Rooney.

An over the top Rooney would stop the young players coming through - add Dowell, and Walsh to that list who,have young potential too - never go back even thevgreat HK came back after his first run as Manager example even big Dunc 2nd spell injury wise was not great!

Next season we hopefully will be in four competitions. We will be playing two matches a week very often...the price of being a successful club...we hope.
There will be plenty of opportunities for players old and young... the young will need plenty of experience around them.
As a squad we have relatively little European experience... Rooney has plenty.
As squad we have little experience of winning silverware... Rooney has a drawer full of medals.

We have a tiny squad at present and I think that our summer purchases will have to supplemented with more academy players.
It may not be Rooney, but we will need experience and I think we will be bringing a player or two that are considered " long in the tooth".
