2025/26 Adam Aznou

Aznou has shown promise at this level, just not in the Premiership…and it’s hard to show any of that if you haven’t played a minute. U21 is pointless to even reference since he was already a star in U21 for both Bayern & Barça - are we to believe English youth setup is more rigorous or better at assessing talent than German & Spanish youth setups that produce the vast majority of highest level talents in Europe?
Yeah, less from you please

All I would say is that I've seen him twice for the U21s and on both occasions he's looked like a child playing in a man's game. Looks technically good, but just miles and miles away physically and positionally - and that's at U21 level.

I find it really hard to be critical of Moyes for not giving him playing time when the only evidence I've seen with my own eyes suggests that he should be nowhere near the team.

Granted, there's been a couple of months elapsed since the last time I saw him, but you'd be wanting big improvement on the last showing.

I also don't love the Twitter episode last night - Bayern suggested there was an attitude problem of sorts and last night hasn't done a huge amount to dispel that theory.

I don't think you can compare Aznou and Dibling - Dibling has shown promise at this level, Aznou hasn't
My feeling is that that's fair if he is that far off physically - I'm not totally convinced but it's very plausible.

But - the club should have known that. We should have known that before buying him and we DEFINITELY should have known that before the end of the transfer window. So why on earth is the poor kid just sitting on the bench with no chance of developing whatsoever and wasting important seasons of his early career?

I have to say, I noticed that as well. The two of them knocking it around with Armstrong was ridiculous, like two competition winners with a professional footballer.

I know it's only a half time warm up, but the two of them were pathetically off the pace. I actually felt a bit embarrassed for Armstrong chasing after all the loose passes. If that's anything close to how they are in training I'm not surprised Moyes doesn't fancy him.
Was a bit of an eye opener. Not sure I've ever seen possession given up so easily in a rondo with nobody in the middle of it.

Oh I'm with you - if he's that far away physically, then we shouldn't have been signing him given we need competition at left back. TBF you can see quality on the ball, and he was cheap, so maybe it made sense in some ways - but he looks like a player who's a year or two away yet and that seems ridiculous. It would be different if we had genuine quality at left back, but we really don't. I'm all for investing in talented young players, but it feels like we've misjudged this one as he doesn't look a good fit to give minutes to.

The one mitigating point I'd say is that even if he's physically off, we could/should be finding ways to give him minutes as a wide player in games we are winning, but there haven't been many of those.

Agreed with all of that.

It's particularly annoying me because I genuinely think he will be a top quality left back in a couple of years and we're probably mishandling him so badly we'll never see it at Everton.

What evidence is there mate to think he will be a top quality left back? Ive asked this before early on in this thread. He's played a dozen games for a relegated team in Spain. And i think sat on the bench for Bayern once.
Im not gona argue he might or might not be able to do a job for someone but where has he jumped from whats been seen so far to top quality left back. Its a bold call.

He was meant to be a future star at Barca and Bayern obviously tapped him up.

At Bayern he was a 'name' in the youth sides earmarked for the first team pathway. A future star defender.

However he had a release clause and seeing that he had Davies & Guerreiro ahead of him told the club he wanted to be in the first team.

At that point he was chucked in for a few mins at the club world cup. Then obviously he was sold to us for his release clause.

This is when Bayern became rather upset that he was jumping ship.

Btw all the above i have gleaned solely from the media. No personal knowledge.

With the media of course theres been alot of attention on him which also backs up that he was very highly rated as its not normal.

I think all the signs and stats point to him being a potential quality player.

The only thing is that Moyes said he needs bulk up (?) but then still hasnt given him a few mins here and there.

Was bloody weird having him stripped and ready to come on in the 85th min against Forest then to tell him to sit down again.

Having him on the bench with absolutely no chance of ever getting minutes, having to watch Mykolenko every game probably isn’t the development path he was promised when he signed.

Yes i find it unbelievable hes left Bayern to move to Everton without any development plan or discussion on playing time.

It's definitely conjecture on my part, I'm not saying it'll definitely happen, but based on all his performances at youth level for Bayern (in things like the UEFA league) where he was genuinely unreal and then holding his own at senior level while getting absolutely battered on one of the worst La Liga sides of recent years.

Basically I think if he was coming out of our own academy we'd be hailing him as the second coming at left back

Yeah his name has been touted around in the media thats for certain. He's not a random Bayern youth player, very highly rated by them.

Many many players at youth level dont kick on to be top quality. You've only got to look at youth cup finals down the years at club and international level to see how many went on to perform at top level. The drop off is huge.
He might do a job. But even thats hard to tell as so little has been seen of him.
