2025/26 Adam Aznou

These reports don't sound promising. With Barry and Aznou we seem to have spent a lot of money on players who just aren't ready to play in the Premier League. We would have been better signing 2 solid experienced full backs and an old but reliable forward. The Dibling signing I can understand although we overpaid, but our transfer window seems to be unravelling a bit, leaving Moyes with a very small squad to work with.

…I’d be thinking he was brought in as a player with great potential who would initially provide LB cover and indeed put pressure on Mykolenko and possibly leapfrog him. It wouldn’t take much.

He’s not even looking like he can provide cover at this point in time, so it is disappointing. His problem is, there’s a transfer window around the corner and he could see himself totally out in the cold. Already looking (to me) that he’ll be out on loan this time next season.

Some people voted it an 8/10 window btw.

People vote based on YouTube videos, never easy to tell until they've actually seen them play for us.

Aznou was playing for Rayo Vallecano last season and supposedly did well so there must be something there, on paper a good young attacking fullback that could take over from Mykolenko.

Barry a decent season with Villareal and Dibling a decent season with Southampton.

Need to give them all time, but hopefully long term good signings for us.

He could have vetoed the signings tbf, the idea of the new setup is so he has plenty of say in signings, Dyche was able to veto a number of Thelwells targets by all accounts so I'm not sure why Moyes wouldn't and I don't think he would work anywhere where he has no input into transfers, that was the issue at West Ham.

From what I've heard, we struggled to get players to sign for us, which is plausible until you see who Bournemouth and Brentford manage to sign. I think the problem is once our top targets had turned us down, our b and c targets just weren't well researched enough.

I think people are shocked that we spent £70 mill on these three players and they haven’t delivered yet , as £70 mil is a huge amount for us . The RS spent £300 mill on 3 players and are still moaning about them. Our plan seems to be that we can’t even afford to spend even £100 mill on 3 players but if we buy early enough we may get 3 players who are eventually worth £100 m. As you say we need to give them time.

Can I remind everyone just how poor Seamus was when he first signed. Turned out okay. Many similar, so just too early to write off players.

The core issue is they are not ready yet, Moyes said so about Aznou at a recent press conference.

Our fundamental problem was the scale of the squad renewal required, that included future potential as well as established players.

The lad is 19 and never had a start in the Bundesliga. Never experienced a win at Valladolid. Why do some folks seem shocked that he's not ready? Clearly signed for his potential.
He was obviously signed for his potential to an extent but I think everyone assumed that he was at least going to be viable competition for Mykolenko in the short term. I find it very hard to believe that we paid what we paid for him expecting him not have played a single minute of first team football at this stage, with Garner and Coleman having played left back instead. I also find it difficult to believe that a full international with experience of playing in La Liga would have agreed a permanent move to a club a significant step down from where he was to find himself in the exact same position in terms of gametime.

Lads. What on earth is going on in this thread. He is 19 and cost £8m. Whether or not he was a good signing won't be clear for like...two years. Just forget he exists until he starts making 1st team appearances.

We should and will be making one or two signings like this every summer. Some will come in looking like world beaters but then do nothing, some will come in looking like raffle winners and then eventually everything clicks, some will just be really average. It's fine.

Then we should be looking into why that is. Do players still see us as a relegation fighting club even though the club had been taken over and clearly given a new future? Are they a bit put off by the fact that Moyes has a reputation for being slightly negative/safety first at times? 100% agree on the research comment, there has been a flaw in the way we do things for a long time regardless of who is in charge of the process. The likes of Brighton, Brentford, Bournemouth, and even Palace seem to find these players but we never do or certainly not in the same vein. Hopefully one or more of these youngsters we signed does eventually come good.

He got injured, and is just getitng back to fitness.

Moyes has already praised him, just said needs a little time to adapt.

Everyone needs to chill out.
