If the reports are correct it would appear a sort of impasse has been reached.
In order to back our manager we must provide him with Doucouré . In our favour the player wishes to sign for us , against our favour the owners of this club almost certainly bear us some level of antipathy. They would prefer to sell the player to another club but the player is insistent on going to Everton.
Watford don’t have to sell but this risk having an unhappy and rapidly devaluing player.
So the solution is for us to sacrifice a young player, and of
Branthwaite and Gordon it is Gordon who we could spare most.
I doubt this was the intention of the management at the outset but it is probably the only way this deal gets done.
Personally I would prefer we walked away and sourced another player who meets the managers requirements. Doucouré isn’t worth losing control of either player for a season.
