There's no way he's a backup if he comes here. At 28, and having been a regular starter in the PL, wherever he winds up he'll want assurances that the manager sees him as a starter. If he signs, he'll be out starting RB.

That's where I disagree with the "not bad" reasoning.

Michael Keane had a not bad/ok season, let's extend his contract.
Tarkowski was ok, let's extend his contract.
Barry scored two goals against Man City - let's keep him.
Gana was ok for most of the season - let's trigger his one year extension.
McNeil had a great attitude after the Crystal Palace debacle - let's keep him for another year.
Moyes comfortably avoided relegation this season - let's extend that stability and give him another two years.

We are a club where mediocrity is rewarded with extended contracts and because of that we will never move forward; next season will be another one of mid table mediocrity because this season we were "not bad".

We need an overhaul of players and the manager to have that winner mentality shift.

Purely as a transfer in isolation of manager, £10mil for AWB is fine.

It's not a wow level signing but gives us a RB who wont give the opposition LW time on the ball and can get down the pitch better and faster than some expect. We'd also need a patient Aznou type to take over from AWB within 2 seasons.

However, its clearly a key position thats needed filling for years now.

Kayode, Wesley (Both rejected by our manager in Jan 2025), Palestra, Acheampong and Read would all be options that I could get behind.
