Pretty sure signing long term contracts works very nicely for those outside the 5%. A lot better than 1 year deals do.
you are assuming the majority of players 'have another move lined up' as you put it, at the drop of a hat. i would suggest only the top players have those.

No. Every club needs players but not all clubs can get the top players. There's obviously a sliding scale and it's not all massive moves to Juve or the like but if a player is proven at one level then they'll get other offers around that level before age or injury catches up. There's a long list of journeyman players who can attest to that.

This is gonna end transfer fees... Why would any player sign a new long term contract with his current when he knows he can run down the remainder of his contract, leave on a free, and earn bag fulls of money for himself elsewhere...

I've always wondered this. Isn't Bernard our highest paid player?

Can u show your working out?

A 4 year deal @ 400k p/w is £83,200,000... and its still 400k p/w? Plus they have to pay £2m transfer fee.

Take 60 million from the 83 as that is conservatively how much he would cost in the transfer market, then do the weekly calc based on the remaining amount over the four years.

They will probably sell him 2/3 years into that deal though.

He’s played an absolute blinder. Leaving an Arsenal side that probably won’t win a trophy for the next decade, to join a Juve side that will win the League and probably a domestic cup; while having a decent CL run. Gets to play in the same team as Ronaldo and all the while being paid £400k a week.

Fair play to him and his agent getting it done. He’ll defo start for them next season as well, he’s a great player. Can see him scoring a good amount of goals too.

Genuinely can’t get over this a good player who had one exemplary season about five or six years ago.

I’m in the wrong line of work.
