He was trying something different and it didn't work out.

I thought Del might have picked up a knock when he lost the ball on the goal line. He was taken out right after that.
Why did he by Lennon mate? That is my question. Perfect time to use him as a like for like. Anyway..let's move on.

As I said he was trying something different.

He's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.
Well he isnt is he? He fixates on players and refuses to try something different when they underperform consistently. Alcaraz, Howard, Kone.
As the saying goes.. "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."

He changed to two up top.

He was brought on to help hold the ball up.

Kone was on to hold up the ball near lukaku. He did this fine for 5 minutes until they scored. That's when it went wrong.

But Kone has been an effective sub at times this season, just wasn't this time. Deulofeu looked both tired and emotional, as you know am a big fan of his but think it was right to take him off as doubt he had been expected to play for 90 mins vs Swansea.

Would Lennon have been a better sub, perhaps as a straight replacement for Deulofeu but Rom was also having an poor game - was offside a lot, rarely getting the better of the CBs and looked generally tired. Think Martinez hoped that by having another striker on it would both give Rom more room to move and someone else to make the runs into the box with Ross being replacement supplier as they were having difficulty with him. However his nosebleed took him off the pitch at an important time.

Bizarrely, these times occurred just before his contract was renewed.

How odd.
