A roving Felli?

Depends on a lot of things to be honest, how teams adjust to accomadate playing against him there, the game, wheteher it will be as effective against a team using spoiling tactics. But the stats in the games hes played up there are up there with anyobnes in the Pl in that role - i would keep him there for the mo. It also gives us options on the pitch of bringing someone on and changing him and dropping him deeper.

I dont think he even is a defensive midfieder if im honest, hes a well rounded football and he plays a different role further back but hes certainly not a defensive midfielder, if your description of such is Makelle or Carsley of this world.

Long time lurker and first time poster so go easy but id expect opposition will have a big bearing on where Fellani plays. For the first time in years we have attackings options and a number of players who can be moved around to mix things up and fill in for injuries and suspensions.

Hopefully we might see some improvement this season in the games where teams come to Goodison and sit back which in the past is where we have struggled to break down and dropped the points that have cost us making a bigger push for European places

The only problem with Fellaini playing the more forward role is that Neville will play more. As good as he played last night I still think he is better playing a more free role so if he is needed he can push up more or play back a little further more when needed as Gibbson would be more of the holding midfielder. Everone is saying we are well covered in Midfield and I really do not think so. Neville is ok at breaking up play but going forward its just chips into their half and if we get an injury to Gibson or fellaini I think we are really short as Neville and Ossie in Midfield has never worked and the likes of Brkley have not had enough ganme time. Also if Fellaini stayed in the advance role it would hinder the likes of Barkley getting any game time.

With us selling Rodwell, i thought that would be down to fellaini playing next to gibson, cant see Moyes playing Neville all season next to Gibson, but different games, different formations, Moyes likes his players to play in different positions and Fellaini will prob play both, we have another signing left, Moyes must have a target, will it be a CM?

Think the commentator last night said we started with only 4 players under 30 last night.
Regarding Fellaini roving, I have mentioned previous that what he brings to the AM spot is the best and the most attributes in the entire league. Silva got marked out of the game at Goodison last term, with Hibbert at CB. VDV and Modric didnt get a sniff at Goodison. Marking Fellaini out of the game is almost impossible, too tight to him then he beats whoever aerially, stand off him and he is too neat and tidy on the deck and they are worked around. Last night we saw that no one wanted the responsibility of being THE player to nullify him, simply because none of them were capable. Fellaini can make very good players look very average indeed. We have to continue to play him right in his absolute strongest position.

I don't see him in the advanced role to start every match. I also don't see him as the holding, defensive type either. I think he has shown an amazing talent in that defensive role, but he is incredibly inconsistent.

I think he'll play alongside Gibson quite a bit and be asked to run box to box. Yes, he'll be roving.

Fellaini has being playing in that position for months, it certainly is not a recent revelation. He excels when he does his pressing further forward, and he is a great goal threat as well.

The midfield trio of Neville, Gibson and Fellaini has been so damn effective, why the hell would anyone want to change it?

Fellaini really isn't a great defensive midfielder either, he belongs further forward, or at the very least he can play in an orthodox midfield role as long as he has someone like Gibson to cover his arse.

We'd be better playing with slighter, more creative players and playing it on the ground more against most teams.

United with a weakened defence is an anomalous proposition. I'm not sure it would work as well against teams that will sit back and defend all game.

Plus, Fellaini playing deeper doesn't mean he has to stay there. Regularly him and Osman rotated mid-game last season -- this is one of the great things about having versatile players.

The thing is when we play Reading, Norwich, Southampton etc. I want to see good football. While we played some neat stuff last night there were a few long balls up to Fellaini.

Fellaini deep, Neville out, Mirallas in.
