A question for some of the older GOTites

Gordon Lee for me. Enjoyed his football and thought we had a good team. He did struggle though when he had no money to spend and started to introduce the kids then Howard Kendall came along. So Lee for me as it was more memorable football (then again it could of been my age as I was more passionate and impressionable)

Silly question Howard Kendall and before him Harry Catterick. Now when it came down to transfer dealins Harry was boss I think Alan ball was signed up in a car at what was then an unheard mega fee of £100,000.

Gordon lee had by far the best team either manager was able to put together. The year bob latchford scored 30 goals, Davie Thomas wing play, cultured midfielder playerin Martin Dobson. However it was only for a couple of seasons and a more level playing field. Moyes consistently provided top 6 finishes on a shoestring budget, so he gets my vote. Although lees team I referred to was far better to watch.

Well you see Mikey, it would appear not many are old enough to recall Harry Catterick. LOL.

Thought the question was Lee or Moyes?

I'd have to say (through slightly gritted teeth) Moyes. We were absolutely on our knees when Moyes came in and, although some may say that he never won us a trophy, he managed to lift us to some semblance of competitiveness despite not having a pot to piss in

Gonna say Moyes. Lee had some decent players and we played attacking football. Latch, Thomas, Andy King and Dobson. Some good memories, but we were nearly men. Moyes took over a disaster of a team and turned us round. But I can't forgive him for his last season in charge. Totally played us!

Moyes without doubt - rescued the club from almost inevitable relegation and brought us respect if not trophies over his time here. Lee was a good man, there were some great times with him in charge but it was a different game then with different expectations and a more level playing field.

Those mentioning Lee / McKenzie leaving seem to forget the Moyes / Rooney disaster.

I never enjoyed anything in Moyes reign like I did Bob Latch's 30 or Andy King's Derby.

Christ what a call they are so similar -work before flair merchants - but the times were so different we threatened to win the League cup and the title under Lee.

I would say Lee simply because for all his faults he was neither devious or disrespectful he actually "got" Everton unlike the Utd nutjob.

One of my favourite Everton moments, the celebrations, running onto the pitch after he scored his 30th - third best favourite at Goodison, Bayern Munich second and winning the League in 87.

To be honest Nigel I think that is unfair.

That was then. This is now. For me Moyes is a thing of the past but I don't dislike or despise him. He was tapped up by a club higher up the food chain and jumped just as he did from Preston when we took him.

He did a generally excellent job here though his abject fear of Loserpool always got my goat. He was a better manager for us that Gordon.

Two totally different managers in different era's. Lee was probably the better manager, we had a great side, and really should have won the league but for some really unfortunate games over the christmas period with the snow. Moyes never showed that even with a good side he could overcome his in built bottler nature. Both good, but not good enough......
