The funniest thing, well, depending upon your view I guess, is that when they were in a pickle financially, they asked Spurs to renegotiate the sell on clause on Bale. Remember, Bale was not fully cooked, but they had a 25% clause on profit Spurs made. It was waived, with Spurs paying them £1m plus a 3rd choice goalie as compensation!

Ouch. That's gotta hurt. Best part of £20 million lost there.

Average without pace, average, average, utter turd, who ?, who ?, probably be good, who ?

Kelly and Wisdom have looked quite good from what I've seen of them. Stirling is still very young. Suso seems quite tidy. And I think that the others are quite highly-rated.

I'm sure I read somewhere that Benitez had no interest in the academy and that Dalglish relaunched it. The only players I can see who made their debut under Rafael were Spearing and Kelly. Not a great return for a 6 year spell in charge.

Even now they seem to recruit from abroad through their academy partnership rather than focussing on local talent. Their U21 squad has Turkish, Spanish, German, Czech, Hungarian, Portuguese, American, Swedish, Bulgarian, Bosnian and Congolese.

Their youth also train in Kirkby rather than at Melwood. Surely that should leave the way clear for us to snap up the best talent on Merseyside.
