A fair bit of love for Ronald on this table

No mate. I've been consistent all along. The players needed to be upgraded at the end of Martinez's first season if we were to build on 5th. But the players we retained were no way a midtable outfit...which has been proven this season by getting comfortable top half.

They downed tools and should never EVER be forgiven for it.

Because the manager was weak and clueless. Good managers don't let players get away with switching off. Martinez did and rightly paid the price.

...and CL qualification would be an improvement on his first season.
Correct, good managers take clubs forward which Koeman has done this season, not since 2004-05 have we progressed this much, 14 points so far. And not to forget he has taken us forward 4 places, we havent progressed that much since we moved 5 places in 2006-07. Combine that with the goals tally best since 1999-00, it safe to say he has been brilliant

You said second season...hadn't we better wait until the second season is finished to declare this feller good bad or bang average?

Yes, agree on that, but if in his second season he carries on the progress he made in his first were in for something special

Don't be dense. The players were brilliantly assembled by Martinez. They were also terrible, which is why Martinez brilliantly led them to fifth in his first season.

Don't know if you realise but that year we amassed our all time record points total. The next two seasons we finished in the bottom half of the table because the players wee amazing due to Martinez but refused to play to their amazing capabilities because Baines is a rat.

Now the players are still amazing unless Koeman has either bought them or coached them in any way, thus making them rubbish because Dutchman.
lol lol that is excellently funny. Sums @davek 's fuzzy logic up perfectly!!

He's using a less talented squad than ours. Is anyone disputing that really?
Kinda was disputing it Dave. Their attack takes a dump on ours from a massive height (Only Rom would get in their first 11 attack). We both have bog standard defenders, and poor keepers. Our CM's are stronger.

To be honest the Everton and Liverpool squads combined, I don't think you could pick a starting 11 that would challenge for the title

tbf the players did down tools during the end of martinez's time, even the semi. that being said koeman has done alright steadying the ship. now he has to show he can take us higher

I would question why they downed tools, while several times I do recall them being awful under Moyes I don't recall them ever once downing tools as such, same under Walter Smith. Again we were poor at times during that Wally era but also had a few good moments, such as a few 4-0 wins, winning at Anfield and one period when we beat Arsenal and Chelsea within 7 days, but during the bad times I don't recall the players downing tools, just being very bad at playing football. I'm just glad we didn't down tools in the 90s when we needed to stay up on the last day.
If they did down tools under Martinez for me it shows how bad his managerial direction was, he wasn't someone who deserved respect. While under Koeman certain players who don't want to sign contracts to stay at the club, don't even look like downing tools and are willing to still play and show the manager the respect he deserves, even if they see there own futures elsewhere

Utter myth.

The players were here, they just refused to play. The 'kin cowards. And the legacy Koeman inherited also included the best striker in the PL and aplayer like Barkley who is one of the best in this league.

That myth will not hold water and won't be allowed to stand.

Try again.
Yawn. Here we go again, yet another thread hijacked by Davek's agenda.

Let it go mate. Ronk is our manager now.
