Current Affairs 2024 POTUS race

Not sure what people mean by living standards, but the US economy is doing quite well relative to 2018 or even 2021 (since global inflation was up and employment was down during the peak of Covid). Other metrics, such as health care and crime rate, are also quite strong.

Richest nation in the history of the world (or thereabouts), but people vote based on how much their gas costs*

*btw, it's down right now, I see Biden trying to throw the election to Kamala

Every time I hear this from someone when knocking doors, making calls, or in casual conversation I say, if the POTUS gets to decide the price of gas it would be $0.00 so he/she would be the most popular politician in the history of this country. They do not, because they cannot.

Usually effective. Not always.

nothing is as strong as rhetoric; tried to have a conversation with a friend about how Biden was raising gas prices... it was too convenient for him. "It's going to take more than that for me to accept this economic cluster" was his exact response. I've said sarcastically there's nothing conservatives love more than government subsidy, so long as it's the right kind and for them (cheaper food, gas, etc). we could talk about how the US is the largest oil producing nation in the world and Biden has used more strategic oil reserves than any prior president, but will facts change opinions? seems unlikely.

Thank you for your service. Crying about gas prices regardless of the party in power is one of my biggest pet peeves. You’ll struggle to find any day to day necessity that has been more inflation resistant in the past 20 years. It’s currently cheaper than it was in 2005 in real dollars, not even relative adjusted for inflation. I paid $2.38/gal when I last filled up, and that was no grocery points or membership discounts. That was just the price.

It’s $7.50 a US gallon here in the UK. You exercise dodgers need to get some perspective on fuel prices.

Don’t disagree, but with the exception of a handful of big cities, it’s basically impossible to exist here without a vehicle. I don’t know this for certain, but I’d wager a substantial amount of money on the percentage of roads in my city that have a sidewalk being <1%. Even walking to the nearest restaurant or convenience store from my house would require me to walk half a mile through a ditch with grass a foot high and then cross a highway that has zero pedestrian crossings and the speed limit is 55 MPH.

I feel like davek beating a dead horse but it'll be all about turn out and preventing voter suppression.
Already a problem here in NC with a delay on mailing out absentee ballots. Many out of country will see their vote not get counted
I am still hoping that the GOP decision to outsource their Get Out the Vote campaign to the grifters at Turning Point really comes back to bite them.

Said before that it will come down to how many people the Republicans manage to disenfranchise in the right places. They've been putting the mechanisms in place for a long time now. That party no longer believes in democracy, because it knows that it can no longer be elected democratically. Chicanery and the oddities of the electoral college are it's only hope.
