125 years of the Football League and the top flight - which team comes top?

I know what you mean though mate, our trophy to time in top flight ratio is pretty poor.

But i'd rather be top flight than a Sheffield Wednesday or a Leeds.

The original post is basically "look no team has ever been so good at not getting relegated out of the top flight as everton, I hope this puts paid to the modern idea that just not getting relegated out of the top flight is good enough for everton."

Which is a fair point, I don't think we have much to worry about in terms of relegation when even the likes of bingham and smith couldn't get us relegated.

But how he's gone from that to we should be in the title race every year is beyond me.

Moyes is a god for keeping us up mate. Without him we'd be playing the likes of Bradford every week.

But probably not in the League Cup Final.

Shows why people get irked by the "plucky Everton" tag.

We're a ****ing football institution, a main pillar in British football, forgotten about due to finance.

This is a good thread about historical importance and that.

Eggsactli!

When Moyes came in 11 years ago he understood this, but since hitting his (note his, not our) glass ceiling he's devolved from "we're gonna challenge for the league" to (quoting his captain) "we're massively over-achieving finishing top 10 every season".

Without Moyes at the helm, we may well have won something. This is just as feasible as saying we may have got relegated without him.

For anyone that ever puts down how big a club we are. Have a dig around for the opinions of one of the most respected men in Football history, about our great club.

Sir Bobby Robson.
