10th - How Far Off?

Posted via Mobile Device if we had a sugar daddy come onboard today and invested big time then it would still probably take about five years i reckon. Look at City, richest club in the world on paper but years away from achieving anything.

To be fair, we do have a better base than City. Team wise. They have some very bad players. Ego everywhere.

We won't win the league in the forseeable future. A number of factors, at this point unforseeable, may conspire to make us title contenders. These could be sustained upward mobility under Moyes, investment, a shift in the financial structure of the game, a world war, the reformation of the beatles, etc.

I think we're far enough away to render discussion of a 10th title rather pointless. But, as should go without saying, that weakens the enjoyment I get from watching Everton not-a-jot. My fandom is based on a strange mix of father-issues, peer-pressure and local pride (as, I'd imagine, is the case for nearly all British football fans), which is a pretty formidable feedback loop for mere lack-of-success to overcome.

You what lid?

I support Everton because I love them, I go the game because I love going the game and watching the boys in blue perform. I went the game in the 90s when we where **** and fighting for our lives.

Im not a glory hunter, if I wanted to support a team that wins trophys I would support United surely.

I didnt choose to support Everton, you know its a calling. I love my club, I will support my club thru the rough and the smooth, NOTHING will ever make me turn my back on the club I love.

But I live in the real world. We are not going to get the vast investment needed to take us to the next level, if you know any different enlighten us.

Otherwise please tell us how we are going to win the title with a net spend of £3m a season.

How do you know we are not? Surely that has about as much weight as my claim? Why would nobody not want to invest? We have a great infrastructure at the club. We have a global fanbase, we have the potential for a great ROI.

since our great run through november/december/january i've been saying next season, im dead serious. arteta, yak and jags will be fitter than ever, young blood coming through, fellaini is gonna be a monster with a full pre seson and i can sense a beast of a signing this year, really early aswell. we just need to cut out the stupid draws. plus we won't have the moyes contract saga hanging over us this summer. steve round will be nice and settled and will start earning more respect from the playing staff.
BELIEVE FOR **** SAKE WILL YA.
money this, money that, we've tonked 3 big spending clubs already in the fa cup and yet we're about to succeed where they have failed.
and to finish off let me just say i like leon osman, great servant to our club but i think it's time moyes starts to play gosling on the right side.

Can't say about the title but I would really like to get in amongst them and start knocking some of the gang of four down to 5th or lower.

One thing i will say is that the way we are going we will definatly finish in the top 4 within the next 5 years

No investment = No Premier league title.

That should be: No level(er) playing field" = No Premier league title

The current sky 4 monopoly is or at least has been self perpetuating - richest 4 clubs win everything, earn more prıze money, have more money to buy the best players.

The danger is that if that continues, punters will lose interest and the advertising which underpins the TV money will go elsewhere.

My guess is that within the next ten years the money men behind the top clubs will get bored of having to compete with 'small clubs' for trophies they don't need to win to get where the big money is - Europe. They will start pressing for a European super league.

IMO they should be allowed to form one - on the understanding that the clubs which join it do so for good with, no demotion to/promotion from the domestic leagues. Players from domestic leagues who opt to sign for clubs in this league should do so on the understanding that it is a one way trip.

That will leave the domestic leagues with a core of clubs with (city excepted) access to broadly the same level of finances.

Bring in some new regs on squad size, youth training and sourcing players from local areas and bingo we have a competitive league consisting of rooted in local communities. Pretty similar to the way it used to be but without - what was the name of that local club that joined that failed Euro league ? Tsch I forget.

You have to believe Everton can challenge the so-called Big Four in the next 5/10 years. We have everything in place but lack the financial muscle to realistically make that challenge but once the club can compete in this area, then anything is possible.

This article in the Observer on a possible enforced limit to squad sizes is interesting. So many possible implications.

If implemented the total number of prem players will drop from over 800 to a fixed 600 - releasing upwards of 200 players onto the market. This should force most transfer prices down, at least temporarily. Although at the same time it will save the rich clubs money, which arguably could force the cost of the 'top' players (and their wages) up more.

Not sure that it will help level up the playing field in the prem, but those 200+ players released into the lower leagues, should help raise standards there.

It will also be interesting to see how premiership clubs cope with the contractual implications of the limit.

A club with 30 players on its books already, which wants/needs to buy in a player in January will have to sell before they can buy.

What if no one agrees to leave?
They're on contract, they have to be paid. Would the clubs be able to de-register them - keep them on the payroll without a squad number?

What if a player agrees to leave but no one wants to buy him - would they have to offer players for free?

What would be the situation with players out on loan - do they count as members of loaning club's squad? If not what happens when the loan term ends?
