January Transfer Window 2026

Dream Window:

Brennan Johnson
Conor Gallagher ( loan)
A right back ( eg Juanlu )
An Ake style LCB / Left back but younger
I'd agree with most of that, what I would say though is if you are getting a RB we probably don't need another CB because JOB should go in there with Tarky given that as a partnershiop I dont think they have conceded a goal yet. From that point of view I'd get an attacking LB which would give us options i.e. play Myko if Moyes wants to be more defensive.

The correlation is that filling the squad full of u21 level players is not a viable option for us Zat. It's ok having 1 or 2 but you want 4/5/6 and that's just never going to happen. Its taken half a season for the manager too play Dibling, we are just not that club. We can buy younger players who have had a bit of experience in the game in the 21-23 range, get a few years out of them and then sell them at their peak age.

This is actually correlated which different to someone picking me up on examples of players to illustrate a point.

If we have a squad of 25 players then Armstrong, Aznou & Dibling already take 3 places.

If we were able to sign the likes of Givairo Read, Chris Rigg & Jeremy Monga then we'd have 6/25 or 24% of the squad aged u21.

You've then got 6 positions where we have a starter and the backup is a top u21 being developed.

To highlight this currently using the above names and a first 11 player:

LB: Mykolenko / Aznou
RB: OBrien / Read
LCM: KDH / Rigg
RCM: Garner / Armstrong
LW: Grealish / Monga
RW: Ndiaye / Dibling

If we did something like this then those u21 players should all be fighting for gametime. Also they would be learning from training with and playing alongside experienced players.

If the club elects to sign players 21-23 they will expect to start games and its unlikely they will be top quality otherwise. Being further along in their development.

When an u21 player is developing exceptionally they will of course eventually replace the starting player on merit.

I think we can do really well from this and maximise potential and quality for a lower fee and a lower expectation due to age.

Zat plays way too much footy manager with these shouts. Genuinely delusional.

Please show me where I have written that Everton will be signing or bidding for those two players?

Or shall i twist the words you write going forward to try and insult people?

Some may call that insane.

@Simon Buttle btw im not saying that currently we should look to have 6 players u21 today.

My point was just a response to the point the other poster made about Grealish. Signing brand names may work short term but having comparable high potential players like Armstrong & Dibling should attract others.

If for example we did sign Grealish and he was always going to play LW. Then what profile of player would you sign as the 2nd choice?

Also, if in the summer we have KDH, Garner, Iroegbunam, Armstrong & Rohl how would you improve that?

Same question on the centre backs if we extend Keane and have Branthwaite, O'Brien and Tarkowski?

i just don’t see us doing that much business, i also think we’ve got a pretty tight nit squad here, which is in need of reinforcements, but not sure how well it would react to saying we effectively need to replace a third of you

a striker and a full back makes sense to me for now, right ideally because we have no one and we need Obrien at cb, but if we upgraded mykolenko and went with someone like rohl or garner at rb once the midfielders return id also be happy

McAtee already on his way out of Forest? Don’t blame him. Of each of the 47 managers he has had since going there in summer, Dyche won’t have the slightest idea how to feed him into the team, and he is 23. Time is ticking for him. Can/should play every week at some level.

I had previously been of the opinion that Garner could be converted into a RB ( and he could ) but it's crazy to take your best midfielder out of midfield.
Garner should be one of the first names on the team sheet in CM.

i agree it would be, however whats best for the team and balance is what gets the results

having someone who can effectively play rb and contribute offensively, stand up a man 1-1, is what makes the side play better

ideally garner plays midfield and we sign a rb this window, but if we don’t he’s the best option there, and we have some other strong cm options to compensate

Its imperative that we sign a RB this window.

Moyes & Kinnear saying if players become available for the right price...

...that doesnt cut it for me. Its a critical position and if a top young right back list isnt being worked on currently then theres no excuse.

Need to work through the very best u23 top right backs who are attacking or all rounders and get on the phone to their agents.

i agree, i just don’t trust our recruitment team to see it through

If we sign a top RB then there is zero chance Garner is used there again. Hes also said he sees himself as a midfielder and has been great there this season.

We really shouldnt move Garner to RB.

As I posted earlier

Palace - manager leaving
Sunderland - lifestlye? No chance
Bournemouth - Favourites i think
Everton - Would he play?

Bournemouths manger is leaving in the summer as well, no?

Also Bournemouth are 15th and there next 5 games are

Arsenal (h)
Spurs (h)
Newcastle fa cup (a)
Brighton (a)
Liverpool (h)

Theres a very strong chance they'll only pick up 1-3pts over the course of the next 5 games and get knocked out of the fa cup.

Not saying they'll be in a relegation fight but they very well could be in that group buy the end of January. Either way wouldnt look like a very promising proposition to me

A profile who can be ready to make an impact, is one of the most important positions in the modern game now. With the subs rule getting fresh legs having a different option can win you the game. Be happy with a monga aswell but need a winger who is closer to the first team imo
